Purpose: This study aimed to assess the predictive accuracy of 30-day mortality with delta neutrophil index (DNI) in adult cardiac surgical patients. Methods: This study enrolled patients who underwent cardiac surgery under general anesthesia between March 2016 and May 2022 at a tertiary hospital in the Republic of Korea. DNI was measured preoperatively, on postoperative arrival to the surgical intensive care unit (ICU), and 12, 24, 48, and 72 h postoperatively. ⋯ The DNI showed satisfactory predictive accuracy at 24 h, 48 h, and 72 h postoperatively, with AUROC of 0.729, 0.711, and 0.755, respectively. The optimal cutoff points of DNI at each time point were 3.2, 3.8, and 2.3, respectively. Conclusions: Postoperative DNI is a good predictor of 30-day mortality after cardiac surgery and has the benefit of no additional financial costs or time.

Lower limb ischemia is characterized by reduced arterial perfusion in the lower limbs, leading to tissue ischemia and cell death. It is primarily caused by thrombosis and the rupture of arterial plaques, resulting in damage to ischemic muscle tissues. Metabolic processes are crucial in its development. ⋯ B0AT1, encoded by SLC6A19, is closely related to these metabolites and appears to play a key role in lower limb ischemia development. Our analysis revealed the roles of key genes and metabolites in lower limb ischemia. These findings enhance our understanding of the pathogenesis of lower limb ischemia and provide new insights into its prevention and treatment.

Background: The analysis of single-cell transcriptome profiling of tumour tissue isolates helps to identify heterogeneous tumour cells, neighbouring stromal cells and immune cells. Local metastasis of lymph nodes is the most dominant and influential biological behaviors of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in terms of treatment prognosis. Understanding metastasis initiation and progression is important for the discovery of new treatments for OSCC and prediction of clinical responses to immunotherapy. ⋯ Determining the upregulated expression levels of IL1RN and C15orf48 as novel markers using immunohistochemistry facilitated the correct classification of OSCC including SPOSCC after radiotherapy of NPC and the prediction of their prognosis. Conclusions: The findings provided an unprecedented and valuable view of the functional states and heterogeneity of cell populations in LNM of OSCC and SPOSCC after radiotherapy of NPC at single-cell genomic resolution. Moreover, this transcriptomic map discovered new cell types in mouth, and novel tumour cell-specific markers/oncogene.

Introduction: Osteoporosis is a prevalent skeletal disorder influenced by age, hormonal changes, medication use, nutrition, and genetics. The relationship between MTHFR and osteoporosis remains unclear, especially in Asians. The aim of our study was to elucidate the impact of MTHFR on osteoporosis and fracture risk. ⋯ Conclusion: Our study revealed a notable increase in the prevalence of osteoporosis among individuals carrying the MTHFR rs1801133 variant. Nevertheless, these individuals did not exhibit a heightened risk of major or hip fractures compared to non-carriers. Our findings could be of value in raising awareness of the increased risk of osteoporosis among individuals with this genetic variant.

Introduction: There is evidence that aging and obesity are associated with increased oxidative stress and chronic inflammation. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) may be superior to moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) in anti-inflammatory and anti-obesity benefits. Therefore, the objective of this study is to determine which HIIT prescriptions will be more effective in reducing fat accumulation, inflammation, and improving metabolic adaptation and exercise performance in middle-aged and older overweight adults. ⋯ The results of blood sugar, blood lipids, body composition, and inflammatory markers did not indicate any improved it did not indicate any improvements from the two different HIIT protocols. Conclusions: The results indicate that an eight-week L-HIIT or M-HIIT intervention (three sessions per week, 32 minutes per session) may be an effective approach for improving aerobic capacity. It can be posited that L-HIIT may be a more advantageous mode than M-HIIT for enhancing anaerobic power, adipokine levels, and improving blood pressure in an aged and overweight population due to the induced physiological responses.
