Hidradenitis suppurativa as a potential risk factor of periodontitis: a multi-center, propensity-score-matched cohort study.
Background: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease associated with systemic symptoms. Periodontitis, a prevalent dental disease, shares immune-mediated inflammatory characteristics with HS. This cohort study aims to evaluate the association between HS and periodontitis. ⋯ Sensitivity analyses supported these findings under various matching models and washout periods. While comparing with patients with psoriasis, the association between HS and periodontitis remained significant (HR: 1.73, 95% CI: 1.23, 2.44). Conclusion: The observed increased risk suggests the need for heightened awareness and potential interdisciplinary care for individuals with HS to address periodontal health.

High-Flow Nasal Oxygen versus Conventional Nasal Cannula in Preventing Hypoxemia in Elderly Patients Undergoing Gastroscopy with Sedation: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
Background: We aimed to compare the prevention of hypoxemia using High-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) or regular nasal tubing (CNC) in elderly patients undergoing gastroscopy with sedation. Methods: This study was a prospective, randomized, controlled trial conducted at a single center. We included elective patients aged 65 and above who were undergoing gastroscopy with sedation. ⋯ There were no differences in terms of comfort level [0 (0-4) vs. 0 (0-5), p = 0.268] between the two groups. Conclusions: The HFNO system was determined to be a safe and highly effective method for oxygen delivery, leading to a reduction in the occurrence of hypoxemia in elderly patients undergoing gastroscopy with sedation. It is recommended that HFNO be considered as the standard approach for management in this population.

NLRC3, a negative regulator, exhibits considerable potential in the realm of lung cancer immunotherapy by virtue of its profound impact on the immune response intensity, primarily through its regulatory effects on the cGAS-STING pathway. The inhibition of NLRC3 has been found to augment the activity of the aforementioned pathway, thereby enhancing the anti-tumor immune response. This comprehensive review endeavors to elucidate the molecular and genetic structures of NLRC3, its role within the immune system, and its interaction with the cGAS-STING pathway, with a particular emphasis on its potential applications in lung cancer immunotherapy. ⋯ The development of pharmaceutical interventions and gene therapy strategies targeting NLRC3 presents a promising avenue for the creation of novel therapeutic options for individuals afflicted with lung cancer. Nonetheless, the clinical application of these therapies is confronted with both technical and biological challenges. This review aims to provide a theoretical foundation for related research endeavors and delineate future research directions in this field.

Using oral molecular hydrogen supplements to combat microinflammation in humans: a pilot observational study.
Background: Persistent inflammation over time can cause gradual harm to the body. Molecular hydrogen has the potential to specifically counteract reactive oxygen species (ROS), reduce disease severity, and enhance overall health. Investigations of the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of oral solid hydrogen capsules (OSHCs) are currently limited, prompting our examination of the beneficial effects of OSHCs. ⋯ Furthermore, there were improvements in the BFI-T and CSSD70 scores. Conclusion: OSHCs supplementation may exert anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects on individuals with chronic inflammation. However, further clinical studies could be investigated to explore the potential therapeutic effects of OSHCs.

Purpose: We aimed to explore the predictive value of an ultrasound-based radiomics model for the central lymph node metastasis of papillary thyroid carcinoma. Methods: A total of 126 patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma treated between February 2021 and February 2023 were retrospectively enrolled and assigned into metastasis group (n=59, with cervical central lymph node metastasis) or non-metastasis group (n=67, without metastasis) based on surgical and pathological findings. Intergroup comparisons were conducted on the results of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography, preoperative conventional ultrasonography, as well as real-time shear wave elastography. ⋯ The logistic regression model was built, and the maximum lesion diameter, hypoechoic/extremely hypoechoic, lobulated or irregular margin (95% confidence interval: 1.451-6.755), capsule invasion, microcalcification/macrocalcification or peripheral calcification, high-level Eavg, low-level RT and high-level PI served as risk elements affecting papillary thyroid carcinoma from the aspect of central lymph node metastasis (odds ratio>1, P<0.05). According to the logistic regression model, the model was reliable and stable (area under the curve: 0.889, P<0.05). Conclusion: The established ultrasound-based radiomics model can be utilized for early identifying the central lymph node metastasis of papillary thyroid carcinoma.
