Postmenopausal osteoporosis transpires due to excessive osteoclastic bone resorption and insufficient osteoblastic bone formation in the presence of oestrogen insufficiency. Kang Shuai Lao Pian (KSLP) is a red ginseng-based traditional Chinese medicine known for its anti-ageing properties. However, studies on its effect on bone loss are lacking. ⋯ High-dose KSLP supplementation counteracted these degenerative changes. In conclusion, KSLP improves bone health by normalising bone remodelling, thereby preventing bone loss and decreased bone strength caused by oestrogen deficiency. Its anti-osteoporosis effects should be validated in patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis.

Background: ECM proteins are instrumental for angiogenesis, which plays momentous roles during development and repair in various organs, including post cardiac insult. After a screening based on an open access RNA-seq database, we identified Nephronectin (NPNT), an extracellular protein, might be involved in cardiac repair post myocardial infarction (MI). However, the specific impact of nephronectin during cardiac repair in MI remains elusive. ⋯ The migration and capillary-like tube formation events could be readily revoked by EGFR or STAT3 inhibition. Notably, phosphorylation of EGFR, JAK2 and STAT3 were markedly upregulated in AAV2/9-cTnT-NPNT-treated mice with MI. Conclusions: Our study thus identifies the beneficial effects of NPNT on angiogenesis and cardiac repair post MI by enhancing the EGFR/JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway, implying the potential therapeutic application of NPNT on myocardial dysfunction post MI.

Omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil (FO) and selenium (Se) potentiate some conventional therapies and have anticancer immune potential. This study aims to determine whether FO/Se modulates G-protein-coupled polyunsaturated fatty acid receptors (GPR-40 and GPR-120) and selenoproteins (Sel-H, Sel-W, and GPx4), and increases the therapeutic effect of doxorubicin in a dose-dependent manner on triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) mouse. Mice were randomized into 5 groups (n = 7/group) and treated with physiological saline (control), low-dose doxorubicin, and doxorubicin in combination with low, medium, or high doses of FO/Se. ⋯ Dose-dependent inhibition of proliferation index Ki-67, cell cycle, and stem-cell-related markers were observed. Decreased immune check-points PD-L1/CTLA-4/Foxp3/CD86 and increased PD-1/CD28/IL-2 expression was also found. These observations suggest that the nutritional supplements FO/Se increase the chemotherapeutic efficacy of doxorubicin against TNBC by modulating GPR-40 and selenoprotein and targeting multiple signaling pathways in tumor tissues.

Background: This experimental research aimed to determine whether No-ozone Cold Plasma (NCP) has regenerative effect on crushed injured sensory nerves in a rat model (Wistar A) and to evaluate whether NCP can be used as an alternative treatment method for sensory nerve injury in the oral-maxillofacial region. Methods: A total of 10 Wistar A rats were used for this experiment. They were divided into three groups according to whether the mental nerve of the left mandible was injured and NCP was applied or not: group 1 (n=3) (non-mental nerve damage, non-MD) - the left mental nerve was exposed and non-damaged; group 2 (n=3) (mental nerve damage, MD) - the left mental nerve was exposed and damaged, NCP was not applied; and group 3 (n=4) (mental nerve damage and NCP, MD-NCP) - the left mental nerve was exposed and damaged, NCP was applied with regular intervals (three times a week). ⋯ In the histomorphologic and immunofluorescence analyses, the expression of the factors involved in neurorecovery was much higher in group 3 than in group 2 (MD). Conclusions: The expeditious recovery of sensory nerve function as well as the higher expression of the factors indicating nerve function recovery in the NCP-treated group suggest that NCP has a positive effect on regeneration after sensory nerve crushing injury. Therefore, in the case of sensory impairment of the oral-maxillofacial region, no-ozone cold plasma can be applied for therapeutic effect.

Background: Fabry disease is an inherited lysosomal storage disease affecting multiple organs with complications, including cardiomyopathy such as left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) has been the main treatment for Fabry patients since 2001. However, the indications of ERT are not clearly defined. ⋯ Conclusions: Based on the currently available data, our meta-analysis showed that there are beneficial effects on LVH improvement with ERT in Fabry disease patients. It is better to start ERT as soon as we have diagnoses in female carriers and atypically affected males. Further research is needed to investigate the role of ERT in LVH improvement.
