Since postoperative hypothermia increases the morbidity and mortality rates of surgery, identifying its risk factors is an important part of perioperative management. Considering the increasing demand for robot-assisted surgery and other characteristics of conventional laparoscopic surgery, identifying the risk factors for hypothermia in robot-assisted surgery is necessary. However, this has not yet been clearly established. ⋯ Among the 516 patients, the incidence rate of postoperative hypothermia was 28.1% in 145 patients. The independent risk factors for postoperative hypothermia included body mass index ≤ 22.9 kg/m2, baseline heart rate ≤ 73 rate/min, baseline body temperature ≤ 36.8°C, use of intraoperative nicardipine, and amount of administered intravenous fluid larger than 800 mL. Therefore, to prevent hypothermia in patients undergoing robot-assisted gynecological surgery, these risk factors must be considered.

Retinal ischemia-reperfusion injury (RIRI) is of common occurrence in retinal and optic nerve diseases. The BDNF/TrkB signaling pathway has been examined to be neuroprotective in RIRI. In this study, we investigated the role of a potent selective TrkB agonist 7,8-dihydroxyfavone (DHF) in rat retinas with RIRI. ⋯ It was found that 1543 DEGs were differently expressed in RIRI and 619 DEGs were reversed in DHF+RIRI. The reversed DEGs were typically enriched in PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, Jak-STAT signaling pathway, NF-kB signaling pathway, and Apoptosis. To sum up, the DHF administration alleviated apoptosis and inflammation induced by RIRI via activating TrkB signaling pathway and may serve as a promising drug candidate for RIRI related ophthalmopathy.

Objective: The aim of this study is to compare the effect of bronchial blockers (BB) and double-lumen tubes (DLT) on patients' postoperative recovery after lung resection. Method: 4,636 patients undergoing lung resection and receiving either BB or DLT intubation were reviewed and matched using the propensity score matching method. The primary outcome was the surgical duration. ⋯ However, compared with the DLT group, patients in the BB group showed more infiltrate especially at the surgery side (14.96% versus 9.07%, P<0.001) based on the chest X-ray, together with higher incidence of ICU admission (5.23% versus 2.61%, P<0.05). Additionally, no statistical differences were found between the two groups about chest tube duration, oxygenation index, incidence of hypercapnia, hypoxemia and sore throat, duration of surgery, hospital stays and 30-day readmission (P>0.05). Conclusions: Compared with the DLT, patients receiving BB technique tend to have increased pulmonary infiltrate (especially the surgery side) and higher incidence of ICU admission at the early post-operative stage, which may have an influence on the patients' recovery.

Basketball is a popular sport worldwide with a high injury risk. In this study, we conducted survey composed of clinical symptom reporting scale, physical examination and meticulous portable musculoskeletal ultrasound to 19 elite male high school basketball players and 15 regular male high school students. ⋯ Screening for asymptomatic lesions bares clinical relevance and plays a role in prevention of symptom development. With the concise and easy-to-perform ultrasonography protocol we performed and being interpreted by sports team physician, the protocol can offer precise diagnosis of common injury and screening for asymptomatic lesion potentially progressive.

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) has been reported potentiate osteogenic differentiation, while Docosapentaenoic acid (DPA), another Omega-3 fatty acid, its contribution to the osteogenic differentiation of human bone-marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (hBMSCs) is not entirely elucidated. The Alizarin Red S (ARS) staining and the expression of osteogenesis‑associated genes were analyzed during osteogenic induction by DPA. ⋯ PD98059, a highly specific and potent ERK1/2 inhibitor, inhibited the activation of ALP and partially reversed the role of DPA during osteogenic differentiation. These data indicated that DPA promoted osteogenic differentiation of hBMSCs potentially through miR-9-5p/ERK/ALP signaling pathway, providing a potentially useful therapeutic strategy for patients to improve bone loss.
