Background: Complications of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) had been widely discussed. However, whether TKA influence risk of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in osteoarthritis patients remained uncertain. We intend to evaluate the risk of RA in osteoarthritis patients underwent TKA. ⋯ Subgroup analysis demonstrated a significant increase in the risk of RA following TKA in the female subgroup (HR=1.42; 95% CI, 1.24-1.63), the subgroup aged 18-64 years (HR=1.48; 95% CI, 1.11-1.97), and the subgroup aged greater than 65 years old (HR=1.38; 95% CI, 1.21-1.58) based on 5-year follow-up. Conclusion: Clinicians should be concerned about uncharted association between TKA and RA reported our current study. Additional prospective studies and in-depth mechanistic inquiries were warranted to determine the causation.

Accumulating studies suggest that Huaier exerts anti-tumor effects through intricate mechanisms. Despite extensive research on its efficacy in lung cancer, further investigation is required to elucidate the molecular mechanism of Huaier. The involvement of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in the anti-lung cancer effects of Huaier remains unknown. ⋯ Additionally, Huaier was found to regulate the expression of miR-212-5p and ELF3. Functionally, miR-212-5p inhibitor or ELF3 overexpression reversed the effects of DLEU2 silencing or Huaier treatment, resulting in increased colony formation, migration and invasion in NSCLC. Taken together, these results illuminate the mechanism underlying Huaier's anti-tumor effects via the DLEU2/miR-212-5p/ELF3 signaling pathway, which offers novel insights into the anti-tumor effects of Huaier and constitutes a promising therapeutic target for the treatment in NSCLC.

Introduction: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation is common in Chinese patients with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Brain metastases (BMs) is high and associated with poor prognosis. Identification of EGFR-mutant patients at high risk of developing BMs is important to reduce or delay the incidence of BMs. ⋯ And the enriched pathways correlated with BMs were found to be quite different in the comparison groups of postoperative adjuvant therapy, tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), and chemotherapy groups. Finally, we developed a random forest algorithm model with eight proteins (RRS1, CPT1A, DNM1, SRCAP, MLYCD, PCID2, IMPAD1 and FILIP1), which showed excellent predictive value (AUC: 0.9401) of BM in patients with LUAD harboring EGFR mutation. Conclusions: A predictive model based on protein markers was developed to accurately predict postoperative BM in operable LUAD harboring EGFR mutation.

Background: Intensive care unit (ICU) patients are at high risk of infection due to multiple invasive procedures, malnutrition, or immunosuppression. The rapid increase in infections with multidrug-resistant organisms (MDRO) during the COVID-19 pandemic caused a dilemma, as the rules of the sanitary regime in ICU rooms were strictly adhered to in the prevailing epidemiological situation. The combat to reduce the number of infections and pathogen transmission became a priority for ICU staff. ⋯ Active chlorine-containing substances were widely used to clean and disinfect surfaces. Conclusions: Infections with MDR strains pose a challenge for health care. Identification of bacterial reservoirs and comprehensive nursing care significantly reduce the number of nosocomial infections.

Purpose: We aimed to investigate the impact of Omicron variant infection on the perioperative organ function in patients undergoing elective surgery. Methods: A total of 5029 patients who underwent elective surgery between October 2022 and January 2023 at our hospital were enrolled. Among them, the patients who underwent elective surgery between October 2022 and November 2022 composed Group 1 (not infected with the Omicron variant) the control group; those who underwent elective surgery between December 2022 and January 2023 composed Group 2 (one month after Omicron variant infection) the experimental group. ⋯ Compared with the nontumor subgroup, fibrinogen levels, lung infection/pneumonia, TBIL, and PLT count were increased in the uninfected patients, while the globulin and eosinophil levels were decreased. Conclusion: Compared with uninfected patients, patients who underwent elective surgery one month after Omicron variant infection exhibited minimal changes in perioperative coagulation parameters, liver function, CBC counts, and kidney function. Additionally, no significant differences in postoperative mortality or LOS were observed between the two groups.
