Prescribing of opioids to patients with non-cancer pain is strictly regulated in Taiwan, but tramadol is not included in the regulation on chronic opioid prescribing. This study aims to identify the utilization trend of prescribing tramadol and other opioid analgesics and investigate the influence of government regulation on opioid prescribing in Taiwan. ⋯ The regulation in Taiwan limited the prescribing of selective opioids for patients with non-cancer pain and the substitution of tramadol for other opioids may have safety implications.

Our previous study found the serum gastric parietal cell antibody (GPCA) positivity in 12.3% of burning mouth syndrome (BMS) patients. This study assessed whether GPCA-positive BMS (GPCA+BMS) patients had significantly higher frequencies of macrocytosis, anemia, hematinic deficiencies, and hyperhomocysteinemia than healthy control subjects or GPCA-negative BMS (GPCA-BMS) patients. ⋯ GPCA+BMS patients have significantly higher frequencies of macrocytosis, blood Hb and serum vitamin B12 deficiencies, and hyperhomocysteinemia than healthy control subjects or GPCA-BMS patients.

Lung cancer patients can have advanced-stages at diagnosis, even the tumor size is ≤2 cm. We aimed to study the relationship between image characteristics, clinical, and patholoigcal results. ⋯ For lung cancer patients with primary tumor ≤2 cm, TDR ≤75% was related to more advanced stages, the presence of micropapillary or solid components of adenocarcinoma subtypes, worse DFS, and a trend of worse OS.

Honokiol and magnolol are natural components isolated from Magnolia bark that is used in traditional Chinese and Japanese herbal medicine. These two isomers are used as a component of dietary supplements and cosmetic products. In this study, we investigated the antimicrobial effect of honokiol and magnolol on pathogens causing oral diseases, their mechanism of action in biofilm formation and drug resistance of oral pathogens, and inflammatory regulation in mammalian cells. ⋯ Our study provides evidence of the potential application of honokiol and magnolol in dental medicine to cure or prevent oral diseases.
