miR-23a is a pro-hypertrophic miRNA that inhibits M2 macrophage polarization. A previous study demonstrated that lncRNA NRON alleviated atrial fibrosis through suppression of M1 macrophages activated by atrial myocytes. This study aimed to determine whether NRON promotes M2 macrophage polarization and alleviates atrial fibrosis through suppressing exosomal miR-23a derived from atrial myocytes. ⋯ NRON promotes M2 macrophage polarization and alleviates atrial fibrosis through suppressing exosomal miR-23a derived from atrial myocytes.

Risk factors and prognosis assessment for acute kidney injury: The 2020 consensus of the Taiwan AKI Task Force.
Risk and prognostic factors for acute kidney injury (AKI) have been published in various studies across various populations. We aimed to explore recent advancements in and provide updated recommendations on AKI risk stratification and information about local AKI risk factors. The Taiwan Acute Kidney Injury Task Force reviewed relevant recently published literature and reached a consensus after group meetings. ⋯ Our meta-analysis found that the furosemide stress test can be used as a prognostic tool for AKI progression and to identify patients with AKI who are at low risk of renal replacement therapy. Factors associated with de novo chronic kidney injury or renal non-recovery after AKI were identified and summarized. Our review provided practical information about early identification of patients at high risk of AKI or disease progression for Taiwan local clinics.

This study aims at investigating the epidemiological profile of chronic hepatitis C (CHC) regarding hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype in Taiwan. ⋯ The significant differences in demographic characteristics among CHC patients with different HCV genotypes found in this study suggest HCV genotype was highly associated with transmission pattern and may be used as a reference for HCV control.

Depression is highly prevalent among young adults in Indonesia; despite this, information pertaining to the associated factors of depression remains scarce. In this study, we aimed to identify these associated factors among young adults in Indonesia by using a longitudinal study design. ⋯ We report that the early identification of depression in this population is pivotal and relevant associated factors should be considered when developing preventive programs to avoid depression in the community.
