Data about changes in the characteristics of ED return visits before and after the COVID-19 outbreak are limited. This study aimed to report the differences on utility in ED return visits after the COVID-19 outbreak. ⋯ The use of services in the ED has changed since the COVID-19 outbreak. Hence, the proportion of patients with unplanned return visits within 72 h decreased. After the COVID-19 outbreak, people are now cautious whether they should return to the ED, as in the pre-pandemic situation, or just treat conservatively at home.

Weaning rate is an important quality indicator of care for patients with prolonged mechanical ventilation (PMV). However, diverse clinical characteristics often affect the measured rate. A risk-adjusted control chart may be beneficial for assessing the quality of care. ⋯ Risk-adjusted control charts generated using a combination of multivariate logistic regression and control chart-adjustment models may provide a feasible method to assess the quality of care in the setting of PMV with standard care protocols.

Auriculocondylar syndrome (ARCND) is a genetic and rare craniofacial condition caused by abnormal development of the first and second pharyngeal arches during the embryonic stage and is characterized by peculiar auricular malformations (question mark ears), mandibular condyle hypoplasia, micrognathia and other less-frequent features. GNAI3, PLCB4 and EDN1 have been identified as pathogenic genes in this syndrome so far, all of which are implicated in the EDN1-EDNRA signal pathway. ⋯ ARCND is inherited in an autosomal dominant or recessive mode with significant intra- and interfamilial phenotypic variation and incomplete penetrance, rendering its diagnosis difficult and therapies individualized. To raise clinicians' awareness of the rare syndrome, we focused on the currently known pathogenesis, pathogenic genes, clinical manifestations and surgical therapies in this review.

This study focused on the integrated post-acute care (PAC) stage of stroke patients, and employed a retrospective study to examine the satisfaction with life quality in two groups, one that received home-based rehabilitation and one that received hospital-based rehabilitation. A secondary purpose was to analyze the correlations among the index and components concerning their quality of life (QOL) and compare the advantages and disadvantages of these two approaches to PAC. ⋯ The home-based rehabilitation was of lower intensity and duration than the hospital-based one, but it still achieved a significant improvement in QOL for the PAC stroke patients. The hospital-based rehabilitation offered more time and treatment sessions. Therefore hospital-based patients responded with better QOL outcomes than the home-based patients.
