Castleman disease (CD) is an uncommon lymphoproliferative disorder with distinct pathological characteristics. Unicentric Castleman disease (UCD) presents as a single lymph node enlargement, often without significant symptoms. Complete surgical resection is the standard treatment for UCD. This study aimed to explore the clinicopathological features of UCD in a Taiwanese population. ⋯ Detailed clinicopathological information on UCD in the Taiwanese population is present in our article. Both complete and partial surgery are effective for treatment. VATS may be preferred over thoracotomy due to less operative time and bleeding.

Globally, more than 50 countries have been affected by Monkey pox virus after COVID-19 has subsided. WHO declared "public health emergency of international concern" in year 2022 because of virus affecting 60,000 people in just one month that belonged to clade-IIb. ⋯ This virus has been further deteriorating unstable and unsustainable economy that requires dire attention. Strict preventive measures in terms of personal hygiene, pet and livestock health care, hospital contaminant disposal, good surveillance record, pre and post exposure vaccination, waste and water management could be only possible strategies to eliminate devastatingly dangerous M-pox outbreaks in this epic.

Leukocyte esterase strips have been widely used to detect the presence of leukocyte in human body fluids. We investigated the correlation between fecal leukocyte esterase (FLE) and fecal calprotectin (FC) levels and compared manual with machine automated interpretation of FLE level. ⋯ Positive FLE can predict FC levels of more than 500 mg/kg. The test is widely available, produces results on the same day, and is low cost; therefore, FLE should be further investigated for use in bowel inflammation monitoring.

Acute appendicitis (AA) stands as the most prevalent cause of acute abdominal pain among children. The potential for morbidity escalates significantly when uncomplicated appendicitis (UA) progresses to complicated appendicitis (CA), which can encompass gangrenous, necrotic, or perforated appendicitis. Consequently, establishing an early and accurate diagnosis of AA, and effectively differentiating CA from UA, becomes paramount. This study explores the diagnostic utility of various blood biomarkers for distinguishing CA from UA in pediatric patients. ⋯ CRP emerges as a valuable biomarker for differentiating complicated appendicitis from uncomplicated appendicitis.

Tracheostomized patients undergoing liberation from mechanical ventilation (MV) are exposed to the ambient environment through humidified air, potentially heightening aerosol particle dispersion. This study was designed to evaluate the patterns of aerosol dispersion during spontaneous breathing trials in such patients weaning from prolonged MV. ⋯ Aerosol dispersion within 300 cm of the patient was not significantly different, while the nebulization significantly enhances ambient aerosol dispersion in tracheostomized patients on prolonged MV.
