A prediction system for common bile duct (CBD) stones was originally published by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) in 2010 and was last revised in 2019. We wanted to investigate its application in an Asian population, who have different etiologies of bile duct stone formation and accessibility to medical service compared to the West. ⋯ ASGE recommends that patients defined as high-risk for choledocholithiasis be considered for direct ERCP without prior need for confirmation imaging. However, our findings indicate a high rate (36%) of patients in that group negative for CBD stones on EUS. Hence, EUS is still be suggested first in selective high-risk patients so that diagnostic ERCP can be avoided in our Asian society.

Postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) increase the risk of morbidity and mortality in patients who underwent oral cancer surgery with free flap reconstruction. The association between PPC and preoperative risk factors has been investigated; however, reports on intraoperative factors are limited. Therefore, we investigated PPC incidence and its associated preoperative and intraoperative risk factors in these patients. ⋯ The PPC incidence was 25.8% in patients undergoing oral cancer surgery with free flap reconstruction. Tumor stage, age, and ASA >2 were risk factors of developing PPC.

Patients with influenza infection during their period of admission may have worse computed tomography (CT) manifestation according to the clinical status. This study aimed to evaluate the CT findings of in-hospital patients due to clinically significant influenza pneumonia with correlation of clinical presentations. ⋯ Thin-section chest CT scores correlated with clinical and laboratory parameters in in-hospital patients with influenza pneumonia.

We present this current study to complement with mesh inlays plausible benefits (UPHOLD-LITE System) on available long-term study amidst FDA's concern on mesh complications. This study aims to assess the medium-term outcomes of UPHOLD-LITE system for treatment of advanced pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and its complications, and lower urinary tract symptoms. ⋯ The UPHOLD-LITE system demonstrated good medium term anatomical correction of apical and anterior prolapse, with good subjective cure and improved quality of life. Whilst complication rate was low, slight increase in de novo USI was observed.

The prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) after stroke is variable, likely due to the time of examination and patient population. Although risk factors for OSA are well established, those for OSA in patients with ischemic stroke have not yet been fully identified. Therefore, we examined the prevalence of OSA and identified risk factors for OSA in the acute stage of ischemic stroke in the Taiwanese population. ⋯ OSA is highly prevalent among patients with ischemic stroke in the acute stage, and those aged ≥65 years had a significantly increased risk of moderate to severe OSA. In clinical practice, routine PSG screening of OSA may be necessary among older patients with stroke.
