Little research has been conducted to evaluate the correlation between impulse oscillometry (IOS), Childhood Asthma Control Test (C-ACT), and Test for Respiratory and Asthma Control in Kids (TRACK). ⋯ TRACK score appears to have a stronger association with the IOS parameter than C-ACT score. Our findings indicate that TRACK is a valid tool for assessing asthma control in preschool children.

Imipenem/relebactam (IMR) was approved for patient use in Taiwan in 2023. We evaluated the in vitro susceptibility of recent Gram-negative pathogens collected in Taiwan hospitals to IMR and comparators with a focus on carbapenem-resistant and KPC-carrying non-Morganellaceae Enterobacterales (NME), and carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CRPA). ⋯ Based on our in vitro data, IMR may be a useful option for the treatment of hospitalized patients in Taiwan with infections caused by common Gram-negative pathogens, including carbapenem-resistant NME, KPC-positive NME, and CRPA.

Acute invasive fungal rhinosinusitis (AIFR) is a potentially lethal infection commonly found in immunocompromised patients. It is considered the most aggressive subtype of fungal sinusitis and can lead to severe morbidity and mortality. There was a significant increase in the incidence of AIFR in post-COVID-19 patients compared to AIFR cases before the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to describe the clinical presentation of AIFR associated with COVID-19 illness. ⋯ The presence of meningitis upon initial diagnosis is related to a significantly higher chance of developing a fatal outcome and should be considered, especially in AIFR patients previously treated for COVID-19 infections. Early diagnosis, early use of antifungal agents, aggressive surgical debridement, and control of comorbid conditions remain crucial in managing AIFR.

Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) 5 is a member of the FGF family that functions as a regulator of tissue growth and regeneration. Aberrant FGF5 expression has been previously associated with the progression of a number of different malignancies. However, its potential role in oral cancer remains unclear. In this study, we explored the relationship between the expression of FGF5 protein in oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCCs) and the clinicopathological parameters of OSCCs and whether the expression of FGF5 protein in OSCCs could be a prognostic factor for OSCC patients. ⋯ FGF5 can be induced by cellular stress and risk factors of OSCC, where high expression levels of FGF5 is potentially a useful parameter for predicting OSCC progression and patient survival.

Anti-hypertensive medications may affect plasma renin activity and/or plasma aldosterone concentration, misleading the interpretation of the aldosterone-to-renin ratio when screening for primary aldosteronism. The Task Force of Taiwan PA recommends that, when necessary, using α-adrenergic receptor blocking agents, centrally acting α-adrenergic agonists, and/or non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers should be considered to control blood pressure before screening for PA. We recommend temporarily holding β-adrenergic receptor blocking agents, mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers, and all diuretics before screening for PA. Further large-scale randomized controlled studies are required to confirm the recommendations.
