Hypophosphatemic rickets is a rare metabolic bone disease caused by renal phosphate wasting, leading to impaired bone mineralization. We present a case of a boy with fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23)-related hypophosphatemic rickets who did not achieve callus consolidation after six months of conventional therapy with phosphate and active vitamin D following corrective osteotomy. ⋯ This report is the first to address the short-term use of burosumab therapy to promote bone healing after orthopedic surgery. Our findings further emphasize the clinical advantages and short-term applications of burosumab in FGF23-related hypophosphatemic diseases, especially for patients undergoing orthopedic surgery.

We evaluated the utility of combining quantitative pulmonary vasculature measures with clinical factors for predicting pulmonary hemorrhage after computed tomography (CT)-guided lung biopsy. ⋯ Higher-grade pulmonary hemorrhage may occur after CT-guided lung biopsy. Lesion depth, vessel density, and BV5 are independent risk factors for higher-grade pulmonary hemorrhage. Nomograms integrating clinical parameters and radiographic pulmonary vasculature measures offer enhanced capability for assessing hemorrhage risk following CT-guided lung biopsy, thereby facilitating improved patient clinical care.

The use of high-flow nasal cannulas (HFNC) in patients admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) has gradually increased worldwide; however, details on clinical efficacy remain limited in Taiwan. Therefore, we explored the clinical characteristics and outcomes of pediatric patients using HFNC in the PICU. ⋯ The application of HFNC in the PICU in Taiwan is effective but should be performed with care in infants with accompanying complex chronic diseases. In addition to low treatment failure, HFNC utilizations stabilized the clinical parameters of children with asthma/bronchiolitis within one day.

The use of RDV in SAVR is associated with risk of conduction abnormality requiring PPM implantation, when compared to conventional bioprosthetic valves. We aimed to evaluate the outcome after selective placement of annular compression sutures during surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) using Intuity rapid deployment valve (RDV). ⋯ Selective placement of compression suture helps to avoid unnecessary oversizing, which may reduce the risk of paravalvular leak and post-operative PPM implantation.
