The purpose of our study is to examine the barriers and facilitators for urban African American students interested in pursuing health professions careers in the Midwest. In our analysis of the key informant interviews and focus groups, we identified four barriers (lack of preparation, lack of funding, lack of support/isolation, and perceived discrimination) and three facilitators (early preparation, support/mentorship, funding). ⋯ Novel future directions for this work should include comprehensive interventions tailored to URM students that span the health professions education pipeline and begin as early as elementary school. Interventions that engage mentors should take place at high school, undergraduate, and graduate health professions school levels.

Impostor syndrome (IS) is prevalent in medical professionals. However, little is known about the prevalence of IS among medical trainees and those who are underrepresented in medicine (UiM). Even less is known about the experiences of UiM students at predominantly white institutions (PWIs) and historically black colleges/universities (HBCUs) relative to their non-UiM peers. The purpose of this study is to investigate differences in impostor syndrome among UiM and non-UiM medical students at a PWI and a HBCU. We additionally explored gender differences in impostor syndrome among UiM and non-UiM students at both institutions. ⋯ Impostor syndrome is informed by gender, UiM status, as well as environmental context. Efforts to provide supportive professional development for medical students should be directed towards understanding and combatting this phenomenon at this critical juncture of their medical career.

Most research on autism has targeted White Americans. Although challenges and coping mechanisms are present for all parents, some aspects are influenced by culture. This study aims to compare the experiences, challenges and coping strategies for parents of children with autism residing in the US and Arab countries. ⋯ Lower satisfaction with all aspects of the diagnosis process was found among parents in Arab countries compared to those residing in the US. Lack of community support for Arab parents was also a more significant challenge compared to US parents. With such poor community support for Arab parents, it is pivotal to expand upon initiatives that minimize the stigma and shame associated with an autism diagnosis to ultimately reduce challenges and allow for better parental experiences.

The purpose of this report is to demonstrate the patient education ability and benefits in treating glaucoma and preventing blindness with the NIDEK GS-1 Gonioscope and earlier surgical intervention with cataract surgery/lensectomy and microinvasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). ⋯ Gonioscopic imaging is helpful in educating patients on the anatomy of the angle and how its anatomical configuration can contribute to glaucoma. It also gives clinicians a supplementary tool to document features of the ICA; to evaluate anatomical changes before and after surgical treatment of glaucoma and cataracts; and to demonstrate to patients how a specific surgical device or technique is controlling their intraocular pressure (IOP).

In this paper, we reported a 37-year-old man who developed several lymphadenopathies after using the second dose of Pfizer-BioNtech vaccination against SARS-CoV-2. The excisional lymph node biopsy showed eosinophil-rich inflammation with micro-abscesses. ⋯ In our case, all lesions were completely recovered with steroid treatment. The patient has been doing well and no recurrence has been observed for six months.
