Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial
Comparative clinical evaluation of chandonium iodide and pancuronium bromide as muscle relaxant.
Chandonium iodide, a synthetic non-depolarising neuromuscular blocking agent and pancuronium bromide were clinically compared as muscle relaxants in 62 patients undergoing elective surgery. Anaesthesia was induced by thiopentone sodium and maintained by oxygen and nitrous oxide. ⋯ Efficacy of chandonium iodide in the dose of 0.15 to 0.18 mg/kg was comparable to that of 0.08 to 0.1 mg/kg of pancuronium bromide. Both the drugs were well tolerated.

Eight hundred and forty male patients attending sexually transmitted disease (STD) clinic for urethritis were investigated. Out of them, 31.6% had gonococcal urethritis, 16.1% suffered from nongonococcal urethritis due to Ureaplasma urealyticum and in 12.6%, both the organisms were present. ⋯ Gonorrhoeae were resistant to penicillin, all the strains were sensitive to spectinomycin; while all Ureaplasma strains were sensitive to tetracyclines. As the treatment differs for these two organisms, it is necessary to identify the correct etiological agent.

Peridural needles in present day use have a compromised function because of their circular cross section. An ideal peridural needle must be sharp to cut the spinal ligaments and at the same time blunt enough to ensure prevention of dural perforation. This ideal function is only possible if the bevel and tip of the needle are not inversely related as is the case in circular cross section needles. ⋯ The side opening is 4 mms from the tip of the needle through which the catheter is deflected out. Such a design is sharp to traverse the spinal ligaments and also effectively ensures dural tenting and prevent perforation. These properties have been proved by a myelographic study and compared to other conventional needles.
