The incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) is rising in Iran, but reports vary across different regions due to diverse methods and data sources. This study aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta analysis to provide an overview of the incidence rate of CRC and its trend among Iranians in various provinces. ⋯ The incidence of CRC in Iran is lower than the global average. However, inconsistent cancer registration policies and gaps in registration have hindered the ability to establish a reliable trend of CRC incidence over time.

The implementation of human research involving children and adolescents necessitates a nuanced understanding of the distinct ethical complexities and sensitivities that arise. This study aimed to conduct a comprehensive review of ethical guidelines for research with these populations by extensively examining existing standards and applied studies. The review revealed a myriad of challenges inherent in the involvement of children and adolescents as research subjects. ⋯ To facilitate appropriate participation of youth in research endeavors, meticulous planning is required, in conjunction with a re-examination of the definitions of ethical principles in pediatric research, close monitoring of potential risks and benefits, and the utilization of a combination of innovative and traditional approaches to obtain informed consent that adheres to ethical standards. Performing research with children and adolescents requires special considerations to address the unique ethical issues that can emerge. By adhering to ethical guidelines tailored specifically to these vulnerable populations, researchers can help ensure that studies are conducted in an appropriate and responsible manner.

Aluminum phosphate (ALP) poisoning has a high mortality rate (MR) secondary to cardiogenic shock. Recently, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) showed a successful result in this issue. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the MR of patients with ALP poisoning who underwent ECMO versus those with conventional treatment. ⋯ ECMO reduced the MR of ALP-poisoned patients; however, it is a highly invasive and complicated procedure.

Vitamin D deficiency is associated with severe COVID 19 and poor outcomes. However, the role of Vitamin D supplementation on mortality is controversial. The current meta analysis aimed to investigate the same among patients with COVID 19. ⋯ No association was evident between Vitamin D supplementation and mortality among patients with COVID 19 irrespective of doses and Vitamin D status. Further studies are needed to address the timing and frequency of Vitamin D supplementations.

The association of hypokalemia with meropenem administration: A case report and literature review.
We report the case of a 72-year-old woman who was admitted following a fall and sustained a right neck of femur fracture. Prior to this admission, she was undergoing chemotherapy for lung cancer. Upon this admission, it was noted that she had developed neutropenic sepsis. ⋯ The hypokalemia resolved, and potassium levels returned to normal a few days after completing the course of meropenem therapy. To our knowledge, there is a very rare association between hypokalemia and the administration of meropenem. Therefore, clinicians need to be aware of this, especially in cases of refractory hypokalemia.
