The objective is to evaluate the prevalence of acute kidney injury (AKI) as an early complication of the percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) procedure. ⋯ The prevalence of post-PCNL AKI is approximately 4.61%. The mean BMI, preoperative hemoglobin level, PCNL duration, intraoperative blood loss volume, and hospitalization period were significantly higher among patients who developed AKI. Those with AKI had significantly larger stones with higher Hounsfield units and more frequently of staghorn type. The two groups were not statistically different regarding age, gender, and presence of comorbidities (hypertension and diabetes mellitus).

Reducing the frequency of self-monitoring of blood sugar, due to needle phobia, pain, stress, and costs associated with the procedure, can improve patient compliance and quality of life, provided that adequate blood sugar control is maintained. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of low-frequency blood glucose self-monitoring (LFBGSM) on glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C) levels among older adults living with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), treated with or without insulin. ⋯ Findings suggest a significant reduction in HbA1C scores within the LFBGSM groups, while a discernible increase is observed in the no-BGSM groups over the 3 months. These findings underscore the efficacy of the interventions and emphasize the crucial role of personalized approaches in optimizing glycemic control for individuals with diabetes.

Given the high prevalence of hypertension in older adults, this study was conducted to identify the factors affecting the 5-year survival of older people with hypertension. ⋯ Multiple factors (such as age, gender, social support, lifestyle behaviors, and comorbidities including diabetes mellitus and renal function) might predict the 5-year survival of the elderly with hypertension. They should be considered in health-care package of these patients.

There is a lack of evidence on the link between mitral annular calcification (MAC) and coronary atherosclerotic diseases. The present investigation was undertaken to detect the clinical and prognostic value of MAC in coronary atherosclerotic diseases in patients who underwent coronary computed tomographic (CT) angiography. ⋯ The findings of the study revealed that MAC has no independent prognostic value in coronary atherosclerotic diseases evaluated by coronary CT angiography.

In this study, the relationship between involvement by COVID-19 and the recurrence of symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) was investigated. ⋯ The present study showed that infection with COVID-19 leads to the recurrence of joint symptoms in RA patients.
