Methadone is a synthetic opioid, used in treatment of chronic pains. The current study was carried out to evaluate the QTc interval in Iranian causalities (Janbazan) of Iran-Iraq war receiving maintenance methadone treatment. ⋯ Oral methadone causes prolongation of QTC interval. However, the dosage of methadone and duration of treatment were not statistically related to QTC interval.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease of young and middle aged individuals with a demyelinative axonal damage nature in central nervous system that causes various signs and symptoms. As color vision needs normal function of optic nerve and macula, it is proposed that MS can alter it via influencing optic nerve. In this survey, we evaluated color vision abnormalities and its relationship with history of optic neuritis and abnormal visual evoked potentials (VEPs) among MS patients. ⋯ This study demonstrates a significant correlation between color blindness and multiple sclerosis including ones with abnormal prolonged VEP latencies. Therefore, in individuals with acquired color vision impairment, an evaluation for potentially serious underlying diseases like MS is essential.

Appropriate pain management is needed during the post-partum hospitalization period for preventing cesarean section (CS) related complications. Protocols of post-partum pain management should be planned based on the facilities of each center or region. The aim of current study was to compare the analgesic efficacy of oral methadone and intra muscular (IM) pethidine which the latter was routinely used in our center in post cesarean pain treatment. ⋯ Considering the similar analgesic effects of methadone and pethidine, satisfaction of patients and nursing system with methadone use and the cost benefit of methadone, it can be recommended to use methadone for post operative pain relieving.

We aimed to compare hemodynamic and endocrine alterations caused by stress response due to Proseal laryngeal mask airway and endotracheal tube usage in laparoscopic cholecystectomy. ⋯ PLMA usage is a suitable, effective and safe alternative to ETT in laparoscopic cholecystectomy patients with lower metabolic stress.

Hyperbaric and isobaric bupivacaine has been shown to reduce bispectral index (BIS) during spinal anesthesia. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of isobaric bupivacaine and hyperbaric bupivacaine on the BIS during cesarean section with spinal anesthesia. ⋯ According to the present study, the BIS score during surgery began to decrease when the patients were injected spinally by both of these drugs. The greatest decrease from baseline BIS values occurred at 30 and 45 minutes after induction of spinal anesthesia. However, hyperbaric or isobaric bupivacaine did not have different effects on the BIS during spinal anesthesia.
