In India, the past three decades have seen a rapid growth of radiotherapy as a specialty. Has this led to an improvement in the quality and quantity of publications related to radiotherapy? To study this we evaluated publications by radiation oncologists of India from 1992 to 1998. ⋯ Collaborative studies, inter-institutional trials and randomized clinical trials relating to key oncological problems in India need to be carried out to establish consensus and guidelines at a national level.

Erythrocyte indices in pregnancy: effect of intermittent iron supplementation.
Erythrocyte indices change in pregnancy, mainly due to physiological haemodilution and iron-deficient erythropoiesis. The present study was undertaken to determine the haematological indices during different periods of gestation in women receiving daily iron supplements and compare them with those in women receiving weekly iron supplements. ⋯ The effects of intermittent iron supplementation on the erythrocyte indices in pregnancy are comparable with those observed with daily supplementation.
