In our practice as ENT specialists, people living with Human immunodeficiency Virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) have presented at the clinics with symptoms suggestive of otitis media with effusion such as the sensation of fluid in the ear, aural fullness and hearing loss. Eustachian tube dysfunction which is often the beginning of middle ear pathology could be caused by nasal allergy, upper respiratory tract infection, or obstruction by a nasal pharyngeal lesion such as lymphoid hyperplasia which is a common feature in people living with HIV/AIDS. Tympanometric findings give a measure of the objective assessment of middle ear function. ⋯ One out of every eight patients living with HIV infection may likely have Eustachian tube dysfunction while one out of every five may have developed otitis media with effusion already. There was no significant change in tympanometric findings after treatment with HAART.

COVID-19 outbreak impacted negatively on teaching globally with traditional face-to-face teaching mostly affected. ⋯ Experiences of dental students and their preparedness to VL were moderate. The high cost of Internet subscriptions, unstable Internet connectivity, and low institutional facilities were major challenges to students' VL. None of the socio-demographic factors could successfully predict effective VL.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of different finishing-polishing (FP) procedures on reducing surface roughness of nanoceramic hybrid CAD/CAM material before and after thermocycle (TMC) aging. ⋯ Mechanical FP procedures were more effective in reducing surface roughness of nanoceramic hybrid CAD/CAM material than glaze applications. Sof-Lex kit followed by Super-Snap SuperBuff disc application can be recommended as the mechanical FP procedure of choice considering that this method provided smooth surfaces that were maintained after TMC.

Schizophrenia, from its early conceptualization, has been described in distinct clinical subtypes. However, these categories were found not to be stable phenotypes over time, hence the dimensional option, whereas at cross-sectional level, the dimensions of psychopathology have been replicated across studies; there is dearth of data on the longitudinal stability of the factor structure of the symptoms of schizophrenia in African populations. ⋯ The persistence of the mood dimensions supports the DSM-5 recommendation to include these dimensions in the assessment of schizophrenia psychopathology. The longitudinal emergence and invariance of the psychosis factor echo the idea of unitary psychosis and, along with the prominence of mood dimensions over time, reflect recent molecular genetic findings about the sharing of genes by schizophrenia and mood disorders.

Vascular damage after total knee arthroplasty is rare. However, delayed diagnosis and management may cause adverse outcomes for patients. In particular, direct thermal injury to the popliteal artery after total knee arthroplasty is extremely rare. ⋯ Because of the total occlusion of the popliteal artery due to severe direct thermal injury, anastomosis was performed in an end-to-end fashion with a right great saphenous vein graft. At the time of discharge, she had no specific symptoms other than pain at the surgical site, with a palpable left dorsalis pedis pulse. While performing total knee arthroplasty, the anatomical position of the popliteal artery should be carefully considered to prevent injury.
