The effects of antenatal corticosteroid exposure on the rate of hyperbilirubinemia in term newborns.
Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia is a short-lasting benign condition that affects approximately 60% of infants born at term infants. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of antenatal corticosteroid (ACS) exposure on the rate of hyperbilirubinemia in term newborns. ⋯ The neonatal hyperbilirubinemia was significantly decreased in term-born babies exposed to ACS before 34 weeks.

Ensuring competence in communication skills amongst trainees is essential in health professions education. Involving faculty members for the same is a challenge in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) due to their clinical commitments. The present study compares scores of OBGYN faculty, non-OBGYN faculty and simulated patients (SPs) on communication skills of postgraduate trainees during formative Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). ⋯ The SPs and non-OBGYN clinical faculty can also be used to assess communication and counseling skills on OBGYN OSCEs after required training as examiners.

Autoimmune Diseases (AIDs) are detected in celiac patients. Our purpose was to determine the AIDs that are associated with celiac disease and related risk factors in the Turkish population. ⋯ Screening other AIDs in celiac patients are important, especially in individuals who have risk factors. Considering that many AIDs may develop in the future despite dietary compliance, patients should be followed with a multidisciplinary approach.

To evaluate the prevalence of undiagnosed hemoglobinopathies among individuals visiting the premarital screening Centre. ⋯ A high percentage of individuals are suspected for α thalassemia or other hemoglobinopathies that needs to be diagnosed. Further investigations shall be included in the premarital screening program to diagnose these inconclusive cases. Coexistence iron deficiency with thalassemia shall also be ruled out during premarital screening program.

To explore use of metacognitive skills by medical teachers in relation to Zimmerman's model of self-regulation. ⋯ During forethought phase, medical teachers predict their learning process through learning objectives and plan after brainstorming to make a concept map and use suitable learning resources. During learning, they monitor learning process through self-questioning and put extra-effort to meet the deadlines. During and after learning, teachers reflect on their performance.
