To identify genetic causes of Shabbir syndrome in two patients of Pakistani origin. ⋯ Previously, the same variant has been found in most of the Pakistani Punjabi patients affected with LOC. Therefore, Pakistani Punjabi families affected with Shabbir Syndrome may be screened for c.151dup variant in LAMA3 using targeted sequencing. Sanger sequencing is a cost-effective and time-saving technique as compared to whole exome/genome sequencing. Hence, developing ethnicity-specific LAMA3 targeted molecular diagnostic test would be cost-effective. Further, the study would assist in carrier testing and prenatal diagnosis of the affected families.

This review assessed evidence on the impact of prior coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) on outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for chronic total occlusions (CTO). ⋯ Our results suggest that patients with prior history of CABG undergoing PCI for CTO have a 49% reduced chance of procedural success. Such patients are at an increased risk of in-hospital mortality, MACE, MI, and coronary perforation.

Many people with Schizophrenia lack the resources and access to mental health services especially in low and middle income countries. Integration of mental health into primary care services can be a cost effective way of reducing the disability associated with Schizophrenia. Our aim was to review the studies conducted on role of Primary care physicians in management of Schizophrenia in low and middle income countries. ⋯ Significant improvement was observed in diagnosis and management of schizophrenia by Primary care physicians who received appropriate training by experts in the field. This review suggests that appropriate training of General practitioners in diagnosing and treating schizophrenia can help in reduction of huge Treatment Gap in Schizophrenia. They can also be utilised in delivering psycho social interventions to improve overall quality of patient care.

Simulation-based learning has been a part of teaching in healthcare for a long time; however, in recent decades, simulation-based learning has been adopted by a significant number of healthcare institutes at different levels to improve practical skills, confidence, and preparedness to ensure patient safety and its application in real-life situations towards better patient care. The main objective of this paper was to use existing literature to explore aspects of simulation in healthcare teaching. ⋯ This paper reviewed various aspects of simulation, including its background, philosophies, and highlighted the advantages and disadvantages of incorporating simulation as a pedagogical approach into current educational curriculums for healthcare students. Furthermore, it presents a brief discussion on the current uses of simulation, followed by the educational strategies related to simulation and the importance of debriefing in simulation activities.

To review the strategies for controlling COVID-19 transmission among doctors involved in aerosol generating procedures. ⋯ Majority of the doctors involved in AGMPS are not following the guidelines provided by international and national bodies. As such adherence to guidelines can help prevent COVID19 transmission in frontline doctors especially those involved in aerosol generating procedures.
