To observe the efficacy of zinc sulfate on taste alterations in oral cancer patients receiving concurrent chemotherapy with radiotherapy. ⋯ Zinc sulfate was not found to be beneficial in preventing chemoradiation induced taste alterations. Taste and smell alterations are common in patients with cancer and do not receive sufficient support to manage taste alterations. This area requires more research to develop a comprehensive understanding of the nature and its management.

To analyze the changes of hemorheology, haemodynamics and immune function of patients during propofol intravenous anesthesia in the radical resection of colorectal carcinoma and its significance. ⋯ Propofol intravenous anesthesia has a significant improvement effect on hemorheology before radical resection of colorectal carcinoma and has a small influence on haemodynamics. Moreover it is beneficial to the recovery of immune function. The therapy is worth promotion.

Inflammation is considered as the main triggering factor in evolution of atherosclerotic pathology of heart and blood vessels. Resistin, an inflammatory cytokine is proved to be a main mediator of initiation and progression of mechanisms leading to atherosclerosis, hypertension and ultimately to coronary artery disease. Our objective was to compare the levels of serum resistin, C-reactive protein and total leucocyte count in subjects of hypertension and coronary artery disease; and to observe the correlation of serum resistin with CRP and TLC in the study participants. ⋯ Serum resistin levels along with CRP and TLC are significantly raised in patients of hypertension and coronary artery disease while resistin levels revealed significantly positive correlation with TLC in hypertensive patients of myocardial infarction.

To determine 3rd generation cephalosporin resistance in patients with community-acquired spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) using early response assessment. ⋯ Cephalosporin resistance was present in 16.2% of study patients with community-acquired SBP. Mortality in SBP patients is associated with advanced stage of liver disease.

To determine the correlation between body mass index (BMI) and lipid profile in patients with Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) attending a tertiary care hospital in Peshawar. ⋯ A significant negative correlation between BMI and HDL-C was observed, while the correlation between BMI and LDL-C was observed to be insignificant. HDL-C was found significantly higher in patients with normal BMI. These results are important to indicate that there is modest impact of BMI on lipid profile. Therefore, assessment and management for altered blood lipids should not be based on a patient's body weight or BMI.
