Liver and intestines are anatomically and physiologically linked. Zonulin is a protein modulating intercellular tight junctions and regulating intestinal permeability. Copeptin was studied as a marker of systemic circulation disorders in research about vasopressin and was associated with liver disease prognosis. Serum zonulin and copeptin levels were measured in patients with diagnosis of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) with the aim of easing antiviral treatment management in clinical applications and to investigate the association with normal population and viral load. ⋯ The negative correlation between serum zonulin and copeptin with HBV-DNA load revealed in our study shows they may be used to monitor treatment. Zonulin and copeptin assays provide the possibility of developing new approaches to CHB diagnosis and monitoring.

To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of laparoscopic surgery in the treatment of children with choledochal cyst. ⋯ Compared with the traditional laparotomy, laparoscopic surgery conforms more to the concept of modern medical minimally invasive treatment and has a significant clinical effect in the treatment of congenital choledochal cyst in children. It can effectively promote the disappearance of clinical symptoms and signs, reduce the incidence of postoperative complications and disease recurrence, and improve the surgical efficacy, suggesting high clinical significance and application values.

This study was aimed to compare the early and late complications of tracheotomy in pediatric patient, with respect to surgical techniques. ⋯ In pediatric tracheotomy the preferred skin incision and tracheal incision, surgeon's experience, tracheotomoy time and intubation time are important as regards development of early or late complications.

We investigated the geriatric patients diagnosed as urinary tract infection and evaluated the effects of white blood cell (WBC), neutrophil count, platelet, mean platelet volume (MPV), red cell distribution width (RDW), total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, creatine, albumin, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein, and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio parameters on estimating the need for bacteremia and intensive care (IC) for the patients with pyelonephritis. ⋯ Patients, whose biochemical parameters have changed, especially during admission or follow-up, should be evaluated carefully in terms of urosepsis, multiple organ failure and IC need. A number of diagnostic tests have been described to predict the need for sepsis and IC. However, many of them cannot be performed in emergency conditions. It is a great advantage that the parameters we use in our work are easily accessible and can be performed in emergency conditions.

The most important desideratum of a provisional crown is an adequate marginal fit that is essential for maintaining optimal periodontal health, reducing the sensitivity of freshly prepared dentin and protection of the pulp. The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the vertical marginal accuracy of provisional crown materials using three different material systems (chemically activated PMMA powder-liquid system, light activated UDMA single paste system, and chemically activated Bis-GMA two paste auto mix system) and two different techniques (direct and indirect). ⋯ This study has shown that provisional crowns fabricated with Bis-GMA composite resin material (two paste auto mix system) registered the best marginal accuracy. Provisional crowns fabricated with indirect technique recorded less marginal opening than with direct technique.
