Assessment of medication adherence and responsible use of isotretinoin and contraception through Belgian community pharmacies by using pharmacy refill data.
The aims of the study were to evaluate medication adherence and the influencing factors for isotretinoin and contraception (oral, patches, and rings) and to evaluate the concomitant use of contraception and isotretinoin. ⋯ Medication adherence to isotretinoin and contraception and compliance with the isotretinoin safety recommendation could be improved. Health service interventions, using pharmacy refill data, should be delivered to ensure patient safety and strict adherence to contraception when under isotretinoin treatment.

UK-South Asian patients' experiences of and satisfaction toward receiving information about biologics in rheumatoid arthritis.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) causes painful joint inflammation and is incurable, but treatments control RA. Drug regimens are complex, and patients often do not take their medication as expected. Poor medication adherence can lead to poorly controlled disease and worse patient outcomes. Biologics treatments are expensive and require full engagement from patients. We have previously shown that patients from Black ethnic minority backgrounds do not fully engage into treatment plan. This study explored the patients' experiences in and satisfaction toward receiving information about biologics and future support preferences in South Asian patients with RA. ⋯ This novel study provides insight into South Asian RA patients' experiences in and satisfaction toward receiving information about biologics. South Asian patients with RA reported a range of perceptions about biologics and support preferences, many of which may not be shared with the non-South Asian population.

Inflammatory bowel disease patients prioritize mucosal healing, symptom control, and pain when choosing therapies: results of a prospective cross-sectional willingness-to-pay study.
Given the large armamentarium of therapies for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), physicians cannot fully describe all treatments to patients and, therefore, make assumptions regarding treatment attributes communicated to patients. This study aimed to assess out-of-pocket willingness-to-pay that IBD patients allocate to treatment attributes. ⋯ This study has important implications related to understanding patient preferences and designing patient-centered strategies. IBD patients prioritize treatments with low administration pain. Additionally, these results concur with treatment guidelines emphasizing patients' preference for mucosal healing and symptom control.

Validation of diabetes medication self-efficacy scale in Chinese with type 2 diabetes.
Greater diabetes medication self-efficacy has been shown to associate with better medication adherence, which is critical for disease control for people living with type 2 diabetes (T2D). The Diabetes Medication Self-efficacy Scale (DMSS) is a 19-item instrument to measure diabetes medication self-efficacy. The aim of the current study was to translate the DMSS into Chinese and validate the Chinese version of DMSS (CDMSS) among Chinese T2D patients. ⋯ The CDMSS-11 is a valid and reliable measure to assess medication self-efficacy among Chinese T2D patients.

Cancer patients treated with intravenous chemotherapy for the first time. What are their needs? What do they lack? A qualitative-quantitative mixed approach.
The announcement of cancer coupled with initiation of its treatment impacts patients' psychological and physical states as well as their lifestyles. The objective of this study was to identify and confirm the needs of patients starting off on anticancer chemotherapy treatment. ⋯ This study enabled us to identify, confirm, and enrich our knowledge of the needs of cancer patients starting off on intravenous chemotherapy. These results led to the modification of an existing patient education program for these patients, in order to fulfill their needs in an updated and tailored manner.
