Reliability and validity of the Maltese version of the Perception of Anticoagulant Treatment Questionnaire (PACT-Q).
Purpose: Anticoagulant therapy has an impact on the health-related quality of life, as it is a chronic treatment for most clinical indications and also requires some lifestyle changes. Since there was no validated questionnaire available in the Maltese language, the aim of our study was to translate and validate the Perception of Anticoagulant Treatment Questionnaire (PACT-Q2). Patients and methods: The PACT-Q2 explores two dimensions (convenience and anticoagulant treatment satisfaction). ⋯ There was no correlation between the two subscales (r=0.01, p=0.83). Patients with history of bleeding showed lower convenience (r=-0.16, p=0.08) and lower satisfaction (r=-0.21, p=0.01). Conclusions: Our results support the finding that the Maltese translation of the PACT-Q2 is a valid and reliable instrument.

Evaluating Patient Safety And Ease Of Use Of A Novel Connection-Assist Device For Peritoneal Dialysis.
It is estimated that there are currently over 3 million patients receiving dialysis treatment worldwide. With effective pre-dialysis counselling, a majority of patients choose the home-based therapy peritoneal dialysis (PD) but only approximately 11% of prevalent dialysis patients use this modality. Connection-assist devices can overcome the challenges posed by decreased manual dexterity and/or visual acuity, and can allow more patients to be treated with home-based therapies. As part of the CE marking authorization, a connection device has been evaluated for safety and ease of use in a usability study. ⋯ Safety and ease of use was demonstrated by evaluating task effectiveness (97% SU), interviews and N-TLX. Additionally the study provided valuable individual user feedback, which will inform the final design of the system for PD. The majority of patients and carers gave positive feedback regarding use and handling of this connection device. Innovative connection devices in general promise to reduce the barriers to using this home-based dialysis treatment.

Effect of patient education on medication adherence of patients with rheumatoid arthritis: a randomized controlled trial.
There is a general understanding that patient educational interventions for enhancing medication adherence are important. However, their success at improving adherence is debatable. This study aimed to assess the influence of different modes of patient education on medication adherence in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). ⋯ Patient education significantly improved adherence. However, there were no differences between single education intervention and multi-component education intervention in improving medication adherence. Provision of a disease information pamphlet with or without directed counseling can equally enhance medication adherence of patients with RA.

Inhaler technique errors in Romanian patients with asthma - a multicenter study.
Non-adherence to treatment is associated with poor asthma control, increased exacerbations, decline in lung function, and decreased quality of life. M-health applications have become increasingly in the last years, but little research regarding the efficiency of the instructional videos for correct inhaler use exist. The aim of this study is to assess and improve the inhalator technique and to establish which types of errors were made more often with the help of a mobile health application. ⋯ Although technique inhalation errors are very common among asthma patients, video instructions provided through specific mobile phone applications could improve the inhaler technique in order to achieve a better control of the disease.

Adherence to long-term therapies in cystic fibrosis: a French cross-sectional study linking prescribing, dispensing, and hospitalization data.
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-shortening genetic condition that usually affects several organs and involves significant treatment burden. Adherence to medication is important for successful CF management. ⋯ This study suggests that adherence to medication regimens in CF patients remains suboptimal and varies substantially between age groups and pharmaceutical forms. These variations in adherence should be considered when developing effective strategies to improve adherence.
