High adherence level to artemisinin-based combination therapies in rural settlement 11 years after their introduction in the health system, Nanoro, Burkina Faso.
In 2005, Burkina Faso changed its first-line treatment for uncomplicated malaria from chloroquine to artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs). Patient adherence to ACTs regimen is a keystone to achieve the expected therapeutic outcome and prevent the emergence and spread of parasite resistance. Eleven years after the introduction of ACTs in the health system, this study aimed to measure adherence level of patients in rural settlement and investigate the determinants of nonadherence. ⋯ This study demonstrates that majority of those who get an ACT prescription comply with the recommended regimen. This emphasizes that in rural settings where ACTs are provided free of charge or at a subsidized price, patient adherence to ACTs is high, thus minimizing the risk of subtherapeutic concentrations of the drug in blood which is known to increase resistance and susceptibility to new infections. Therefore, to address the problem of patient nonadherence, strategy to strengthen communication between HCWs and patients should be given greater consideration.

Satisfaction analysis of patients with single implant treatments based on a questionnaire survey.
Background: The factors influencing satisfaction of the patients with implant treatments are still unclear. This study aims to evaluate the patients' satisfaction and to identify influencing factors, which will improve the medical quality of oral implantology. Materials and methods: Patients who lost single teeth and received implant treatments were enrolled in Nanjing Stomatological Hospital between February 2016 and March 2018. ⋯ Meanwhile, over half of respondents were more concerned about the survival time (40.70%) and success rate (20.49%) of implants. Conclusion: Bone augmentation and the period of teeth loss are negative factors affecting patient satisfaction, and the success rate and survival time of implants are considerable aspects for patients. It is essential to raise general awareness of oral hygiene and optimize the dental implant therapeutic process.

Multicenter study of patients' preferences and concerns regarding the origin of bone grafts utilized in dentistry.
Bone graft materials can be obtained from the patient's own body (autologous graft), animals (xenograft), human cadavers (allograft) and synthetic materials (alloplastic bone graft). Patients may have ethical, religious or medical concerns about the origin of bone grafts, which could lead them to reject the use of certain types of bone graft in their treatments. The aim of this multicenter study, which surveyed patients from five university clinics in Portugal, France, Italy, Spain and Chile, was to analyze patients' opinions regarding the source of bone grafts. ⋯ The origin of bone grafts is still conflictive for a high percentage of patients.

Reasons for delayed admission after stroke: results of a qualitative and quantitative survey.
Background: Acute stroke treatment shows time-dependent benefit to prevent disability. Public information campaigns and streamlining of emergency management have been performed, but still, only one-third of acute stroke patients are admitted >4.5 hrs after symptom onset. Patients and methods: We interviewed 15 patients, presenting >4.5 hrs after symptom onset, regarding symptom recognition, emotions and their first action after symptom onset. ⋯ Significantly better knowledge was shown in the answers on closed questions compared to open questions, although the same items were named. Conclusion: Shame, uncertainty and insufficient individual risk knowledge about stroke were the most important factors delaying admission after stroke. Individual risk counseling could be investigated to close the gap between general stroke knowledge and recognition of own stroke risk.

Self-reported adherence to physical activity recommendations compared to the IPAQ interview in patients with hypertension.
Physical activity (PA) is recommended as adjuvant therapy to control blood pressure (BP). The effectiveness of simple recommendations is not clear. We aimed to assess the agreement between self-report of adherence to PA in clinical routine and International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) interview and its association with BP control. ⋯ Our findings underpin evidences that a simple PA recommendation has low association with BP control in clinical settings.
