What Do Men with Metastatic Prostate Cancer Consider When Making Treatment Decisions? A Mixed-methods Study.
Metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa) patients often make complicated treatment decisions, yet decision aids to facilitate shared decision-making for mPCa are uncommon. To inform the development of patient-centered mPCa decision aids, we examined what mPCa survivors considered most important when making treatment decisions. ⋯ We identified multiple considerations that mPCa survivors appraised when making treatment decisions. These data may inform the development of patient-centered decision aids for mPCa.

Effects of Estimated Community-Level Health Literacy on Treatment Initiation and Preventive Care Among Older Adults with Newly Diagnosed Diabetes.
Individual measures of health literacy are not feasible for administration on a large scale, yet estimates of community-level health literacy in the US recently became available. We sought to investigate whether community-level health literacy estimates are associated with the initiation of oral antihyperglycemic agents (OHA) and the use of standard preventive care services among older adults with newly diagnosed diabetes. ⋯ Community-level health literacy estimates were associated with the initiation of OHA and uptake of standard preventive care services in older adults. Community-level health literacy may help to inform targeted diabetes education and support efforts.

Comparative Adherence Trajectories of Oral Fingolimod and Injectable Disease Modifying Agents in Multiple Sclerosis.
Oral fingolimod is convenient to use than injectable disease modifying agents (DMAs) in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). However, the existing literature regarding the comparative adherence trajectories between oral fingolimod and injectable DMAs is limited. ⋯ Oral DMA fingolimod was associated with better adherence than injectable DMAs across group-based trajectories. Further research is warranted to evaluate the adherence trajectories with newer oral DMAs introduced in the last decade for MS.

Optimization of Electronically Monitored Non-Adherence in Highly Adherent Renal Transplant Recipients by Reducing the Dosing Frequency - A Prospective Single-Center Observational Study.
Non-adherence (NA) after renal transplantation poses a major risk for allograft rejection, graft loss, and patient mortality. Yet, there is still ambiguity about its etiology and its possible relationships with patient-related factors. In order to prevent poor outcomes after transplantation, it is crucial to gain a more refined understanding of potential determinants, to identify patients at risk, and to intervene accordingly. The objective of this study was to assess potential risk factors of NA by prospectively applying electronic monitoring. ⋯ In highly adherent populations, only a few factors can be altered to improve adherence. Changing the immunosuppressive regimen from twice-daily to once-daily could be an option for optimizing adherence. However, risk factors for NA could be different in a less adherent population.

Assessing Adherence to Inhaled Corticosteroids Among Adults with Asthma in Kuwait Using the Medication Adherence Report Scale for Asthma.
Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) are the mainstay maintenance therapy for asthma management. Non-adherence to ICS, which can lead to exacerbations and poor asthma control, is commonly reported among adult patients with asthma. The level of adherence to ICS among adult patients with asthma in Kuwait has not been previously published. The aim of this study was to assess adherence to ICS among adults with asthma in Kuwait. ⋯ Adherence to ICS among adult patients with asthma was found to be low in ambulatory care settings in Kuwait. Future studies should aim to determine the barriers to ICS adherence among patients with asthma, with a focus on developing effective intervention strategies.
