Skepticism and pharmacophobia toward medication may negatively impact adherence to psychiatric medications: a comparison among outpatient samples recruited in Spain, Argentina, and Venezuela.
Cultural differences in attitudes toward psychiatric medications influence medication adherence but transcultural studies are missing. The objective of this study was to investigate how attitudes and beliefs toward psychotropic medications influence treatment adherence in psychiatric outpatients in Spain, Argentina, and Venezuela. ⋯ Psychiatric patients' attitudes and beliefs about their psychiatric treatment varied in these three Spanish-speaking countries, but pharmacophobia and skepticism appeared to play a consistent role in lack of adherence.

Affordability of essential medicine prices in Malaysia's private health sector.
The lack of price control in Malaysia has led to increased market competition, resulting in high medicine prices, notably in the private sector. This largely affects patients' out-of-pocket expenses in the private sector. Although generic medicines are preferred due to affordability, the prices are still notably high. ⋯ There is a need for policies to control national drug prices, to ensure medicine prices are monitored. This can help keep out-of-pocket expenses, especially in middle-income countries such as Malaysia, at a minimal in the private sector.

Medication practices and experiences of older adults discharged home from hospital: a feasibility study protocol.
Switzerland's aging population raises pressing questions about maintaining older adults in their home environments and the problems associated with managing complex treatments requiring medication in such contexts. Few studies have examined older adults' experiences of changes in their medication on discharge home following hospitalization for illness or an accident. Similarly, few studies have evaluated the involvement of informal and professional caregivers in the medication practices used with older adults living at home. However, medication practices are complex and understanding them requires an interest in their underlying logic and the interactions that constitute them. This study will explore the feasibility of recruiting older adults and then collecting and analyzing data on their medication practices and their experiences of discharge home after hospitalization for an illness or following an accident. Furthermore, it will describe the involvement of informal caregivers and homecare professionals in these processes. ⋯ This feasibility study will enable the identification of tools that leverage improved adhesion to a medical treatment that has been adjusted and stabilized following discharge home from hospital. It will incorporate the points of view of older adults and the different stakeholders involved in the management of their medication and the development of tangible solutions to encourage treatment adhesion on discharge home. This study's findings will enable us to design a much larger future study.

Adherence to subcutaneous interferon beta-1a treatment using an electronic injection device: a prospective open-label Scandinavian noninterventional study (the ScanSmart study).
Disease modifying drugs help control the course of relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS); however, good adherence is needed for long-term outcomes. ⋯ RRMS patients treated with subcutaneous interferon beta-1a, administered with RebiSmart, demonstrated generally good adherence, and the treatment was generally well tolerated.
