Application of health quotient to enhance chronic periodontitis treatments.
Based on the concept of health quotient (HQ), we designed and facilitated personalized plans to improve patients' compliance and oral health. The study aims to increase HQ level of patients with chronic periodontitis from four aspects, namely self-care, health knowledge, lifestyle, and mental health, and evaluate the effects of HQ training in maintaining oral health. ⋯ HQ training for patients with chronic periodontitis increased their scores in self-care and health knowledge and significantly slowed down the progression of chronic periodontitis.

Feasibility and willingness to pay for dengue vaccine in the threat of dengue fever outbreaks in Vietnam.
The escalation of dengue fever (DF) cases in recent years and the occurrence of a large-scale DF outbreak in 2017 underline the importance of dengue vaccines in Vietnam. Given the potential benefits of the dengue vaccines and the need for copayment by the private sector, this study aims to evaluate the willingness to pay (WTP) for the dengue vaccines in patients with DF in Northern Vietnam. ⋯ This study highlights a relatively high rate and amount of WTP for the dengue vaccine among patients with DF. Psychological counseling services as well as educational campaigns should be undertaken to improve the WTP for the vaccine. Moreover, government subsidies should be given to increase the coverage of the vaccine in the future, especially for the poor.

If someone cares about you, you are more apt to come around: improving HIV care engagement by strengthening the patient-provider relationship.
The patient-provider relationship is a central factor that can promote or hinder long-term engagement in care among people living with chronic illnesses. In this paper, we explore characteristics of the patient-provider relationship that facilitated or hindered engagement in care among patients receiving care at HIV specialty clinics. ⋯ We discuss practical strategies and therapeutic techniques that may be helpful to providers in building strong patient-provider relationship and contend that a strong patient-provider relationship is crucial for patients to feel cared for during clinical encounters, which can promote long-term and sustained engagement in HIV care.

The impact on quality of life of dialysis patients with renal insufficiency.
The aim of the study was the subjective assessment of the quality of life (QoL) of 140 patients treated with dialysis (peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis). ⋯ In order to improve the functioning of hemodialysis patients in a manner most similar to healthy persons, the renal replacement therapy should consider patients' individual needs and expectations, ie, guarantee flexible hours of work or study and of receiving dialysis. In addition, patients treated with hemodialysis should receive psychological care, in particular those demonstrating emotional problems, in order to achieve better results in therapy and improve their QoL.

The impact of pharmaceutical interventions on the rational use of proton pump inhibitors in a Chinese hospital.
The prescriptions of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) have raised concern due to both huge increase in medical expenditure and the possible long-term adverse events caused by them; therefore, an approach to taper off the irrational use of PPIs by patients is clinically warranted. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of pharmaceutical interventions on the rational use of PPIs. ⋯ This study provides important evidence on the beneficial effect of pharmaceutical interventions on enhancing the rational use of PPIs and substantial cost saving by increasing the number of patients with rational indication and reducing the risk for long-term adverse events.
