Intention to use hearing aids: a survey based on the theory of planned behavior.
To determine the intention to use hearing aids (HAs) by applying the theory of planned behavior (TPB). ⋯ The intention to use HAs can be modeled on the basis of the constructs "attitude toward the behavior", "subjective norm", and "behavioral control". Individual contribution of the constructs to the model depends on the patient's stage of hearing help-seeking. The results speak well for counseling strategies that explicitly consider the individual trajectory of hearing help-seeking.

i Engaging as an innovative approach to engage patients in their own fall prevention care.
Decreasing patient fall injuries during hospitalization continues to be a challenge at the bedside. Empowering patients to become active participants in their own fall prevention care could be a solution. ⋯ To address patients' needs, we developed "i Engaging", a Web-based software application for use at the bedside. i Engaging is an innovative approach that is used to engage patients in their own fall prevention care during hospital stays. The application was designed based on the assumption that patients are the best and most critical sources of information about their health status. i Engaging has not yet been tested in clinical trials.

Proportion and risk indicators of nonadherence to antihypertensive therapy: a meta-analysis.
The World Health Organization (WHO) concluded that poor adherence to treatment is the most important cause of uncontrolled high blood pressure, with approximately 75% of patients not achieving optimum blood pressure control. The WHO estimates that between 20% and 80% of patients receiving treatment for hypertension are adherent. As such, the first objective of our study was to quantify the proportion of nonadherence to antihypertensive therapy in real-world observational study settings. The second objective was to provide estimates of independent risk indicators associated with nonadherence to antihypertensive therapy. ⋯ This study clarifies the extent of adherence along with determining nine independent risk indicators associated with nonadherence to antihypertensive medications.

Adherence to preventive medications in asthmatic children at a tertiary care teaching hospital in Malaysia.
Asthma affects an estimated 300 million people worldwide. Poor adherence to prescribed preventive medications, especially among children with asthma, leads to increased mortality and morbidity. The purpose of this study was to assess the adherence and persistence levels of asthmatic children at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Center (UKMMC), a tertiary care teaching hospital, and to determine the factors that influence adherence to prescribed preventive medications. ⋯ In conclusion, the adherence level among children with asthma at UKMMC was low. The presence of comorbidities was found to influence adherence towards preventive medications in asthmatic children.

Quality of life in elderly patients following coronary artery bypass grafting.
Surgical revascularization of the coronary arteries leads to changes in quality of life (QoL) for patients with coronary heart disease. The aim of this work was to monitor QoL, considering cognitive function, depression, and activities of daily living in elderly patients after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). ⋯ Elderly patients with coronary heart disease have decreased QoL, which normalizes in men and improves in women after CABG.
