To assess the association between race and type of glomerulonephritis, taking into account age, gender and the presence of hepatosplenic schistosomiasis mansoni. ⋯ A higher frequency of negroes and mulattoes in the FSG group (compared with MPGN) in this sample from the State of Bahia is consistent with findings of previous studies from the United States. The data support the possibility of a greater susceptibility to FSG among negroes and mulattoes, independently of age, gender and schistosomiasis. The identification of the mechanisms that determine this racial difference represents an important question for future investigations.

Two cases of patients with large squamous cell carcinoma in the lower lip, that were submitted to the reconstructive surgery, using technique of lateral progress with reconstruction of the red lip, always tends the concern of the recovery not only functional as well as aesthetic of these patients ones, are reported. A classification is given suggesting the main locations of the squamous cell carcinoma of the lip, allowing better definition with relationship to the surgical technique to be used in each case, depending on the location and involvement or not of the lip comissure.

Case Reports
[Upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage caused by a fistula from a right anomalous subclavian artery to the esophagus].
Bleeding from an arterio-esophageal fistula is a rare and nearly lethal condition and surgical treatment is the only curative option. We report a case of bleeding from a fistula from an aberrant right subclavian artery to the esophagus. ⋯ Development of a communication between this artery and the esophagus, secondary to aneurysmatic dilatation or to prolonged nasogastric intubation, as probably occurred with this patient, is a extremely rare condition. Surgical treatment depends on the early recognition of clinical signs of the arterio-esophageal communication, before the onset of systemic complications of hypovolemic shock.
