A 6 s spirometry with an inexpensive pocket spirometer efficiently selects individuals for a diagnostic-quality spirometry for airflow limitation, but could also be useful to identify individuals with a restrictive pattern. ⋯ An FEV1 < 87%P from a pre-BD 6 s spirometry correctly identified individuals with spirometric ventilatory defects, either obstructive or restrictive.

Left ventricular (LV) thrombus formation is a common complication of anterior myocardial infarction (ANT-MI). The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between apical longitudinal strain (ALS) and LV apical thrombus after ANT-MI. ⋯ ALS is highly sensitive and specific for predicting LV thrombus after ANT-MI. An early and accurate evaluation of LV thrombus may prevent embolic complications, particularly cerebrovascular events.

Analysis of the Endometrial Transcriptome at the Time of Implantation in Women Receiving a Single Post-Ovulatory Dose of Levonorgestrel or Mifepristone.
Levonorgestrel (LNG) is a progesterone receptor agonist used in both regular and emergency hormonal contraception; however, its effects on the endometrium as a contraceptive remain widely unknown and under public debate. ⋯ The administration of LNG as a hormonal emergency contraceptive resulted in an endometrial gene expression profile associated with receptivity. These results agree on the concept that LNG does not affect endometrial receptivity and/or embryo implantation when used as an emergency contraceptive.

The presence of clinically relevant mutations in KRAS and NRAS genes determines the response of anti-epidermal growth factor receptor antibody therapy for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). The only quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR)-based diagnostic tests approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) screen merely for mutations in codons 12 and 13 of KRAS. ⋯ While these kits based on qPCR can be very practical and highly sensitive, their mutation coverage ignores mutations from poorly genetically characterized populations.

Underestimation of the number of cases during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has been a constant concern worldwide. Detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) RNA using realtime reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) is the most common method to confirm a case. However, these tests have suboptimal sensitivity. ⋯ Accounting for SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR-based diagnostic tests’ precision is a simple way to improve estimations for the true number of COVID-19 cases among tested persons.
