Recovery following tonsillectomy a comparison between tramadol and morphine for analgesia.
The optimal method of intraoperative analgesia for adult tonsillectomy is uncertain. It is important that recovery should be rapid so that the airway is not compromised. Tramadol hydrochloride is an analgesic with mixed -mu and non-opioid activities which has less respiratory depression effects compared to morphine. ⋯ We conclude that tramadol given for intra-operative analgesia during tonsillectomy results in faster recovery with significantly less nausea and vomiting in the early postoperative period.

Abdominal pain is a common presenting symptom in children. A substantial percent of unscheduled paediatric office visits and paediatric emergency room visits are due to abdominal pain. ⋯ In this essay, a discussion of abdominal pain is presented, with particular emphasis on the role of radiologic imaging tests to investigate potential causes of abdominal pain. The more common and clinically significant causes of abdominal pain in a child will be discussed in greater detail.

Methylene blue is a vital dye that is used in the treatment of methaemoglobinaemia. It is also used to delineate tissues to facilitate identification during surgery. ⋯ However, there have not been any previous reports of urinary discoloration after brief rectal instillation of the dye. We report a case of self-limiting urinary discoloration after anterior resection with colorectal anastomosis.

Relapsing polychondritis (RPC) has been described mainly in Caucasian populations. Reports from other ethnic groups are few. ⋯ Our series suggests that although the clinical manifestations of RPC are similar in the Oriental and the Caucasian populations, Oriental patients may have less cutaneous, renal or nervous system involvement and more serious airway complications.
