The paper considers mechanisms of action and clinical efficacy of the drug sirdalud (tizanidine) in painful musculotonic syndromes. Sirdalud is an agonist of alpha 2-adrenergic receptors effective in painful musculotonic syndromes and spasticity of various genesis. ⋯ The response can be seen as early as the first treatment days. Sirdalud is applicable as alone and in combination with non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs.

The aim of the study was to investigate the role of HLA-B27 subtypes in development of ankylosing spondylitis and other seronegative spondylarthropathies. Using oligotyping techniques we studied native DNA of 219 HLA-B27 positive natives: 88 Chukotka residents and 131 Mordovians (Russian Ugro-Finnish population). ⋯ It was established that among spondylarthropathic patients the frequency of B*2705 does not differ from its incidence in the studied populations. The data support the suggestion that several B27 subtypes and common genetic determinant of B27 gene may be involved in pathogenesis of spondylarthropathy.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial
[Plasma myoglobin and continuous hemofiltration in patients with rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney failure].
Plasma and filtrate levels of myoglobin, specific antibodies and immune complexes were measured by radioimmunoassay or enzyme immunoassay in patients with rhabdomyolysis and acute renal failure on continuous hemofiltration (CHF). 14 of them had crush syndrome, 7 had other forms of rhabdomyolysis. 11 patients died (52%) because of the underlying disease or its complications. Rhabdomyolysis was associated with marked and long-lasting myoglobinemia. ⋯ CHF provided elimination of large amounts of myoglobin with filtrate. In rhabdomyolysis in all cases there appeared specific antibodies and circulating immune complexes.

[The efficacy of the magnesium sulfate aerosol treatment of bronchial asthma patients].
Action of magnesium sulphate (MS) aerosol (solution osmolality 260 mmol/l, pH 6.6) on bronchial sensitivity and reactivity to acetylcholine(AC) and graded exercise as well as bronchial permeability assessed by general plethysmography and pneumotaxography were studied in 49 patients with mild and moderate bronchial asthma. It is shown that when compared to placebo, MS inhalations conducted in the time of attenuating asthma exacerbation improved immediate and long-term responses in atopic and effort asthma. Both in single doses and course administration MS reduced non-specific bronchial hyperreactivity and secretory activity of mast cells. Positive dynamics of bronchoprovocative AC test suggested response to treatment in most BA patients.

[The characteristics of the blood lipid composition in northern Selkups and in the immigrant population of northern Siberia and the problems of miscegenation].
Blood lipid composition was studied in 507 Selkups, native population of Tyumen Province (199 males and 308 females), 245 Slavs living in the north for more than 5 years (97 males and 148 females), 189 first generation métis born in mixed marriages (68 males and 121 females). Three age groups were analyzed: 10-19 (group 1), 20-39 (group 2), 40-59 (group 3). Male métis from groups 1, 2 and 3 had the highest levels of HDLP cholesterol, the lowest of apoB and atherogenic index. ⋯ Group 3 métis males had the lowest levels of triglycerides and intermediate levels of total and LDLP cholesterol. Group 1 and 2 métis females had the highest levels of LDLP, the lowest of apoB and low atherogenic index. In group 3, levels of total cholesterol, LDLP cholesterol, apoB and atherogenic index were as high as in non-aboriginal Slavonic population.
