To study the role of the morphogenetic proteins FGF-23 and Klotho in the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and in the development of cardiovascular events, inflammation, protein-energy deficiency, and other complications. ⋯ The results of the investigation lend credence to the experimental and clinical findings that the serum levels of the morphogenetic proteins FGF-23 (an increase) and Klotho (a decrease) are early markers for progressive CKD and that their changes begin just in Stage III CKD and progress as renal failure worsens.

Comparative Study
[Osteoprotegerin and fibroblast growth factor 23 in the development of cardiovascular events in chronic kidney disease].
To study the role of the bone mineral metabolic mediators osteoprotegerin (OPG) and fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23) in the mechanisms of cardiovascular events (CVEs) in chronic kidney disease (CKD). ⋯ The morphogenetic proteins OPG and FGF-23 seem to play a significant role not only in bone remodeling processes, but also in the development of CVEs in CKD.

To study the specific features of the hormonal status in the development of obesity and metabolic syndrome (MS) in different ethnic groups. ⋯ The incidence of MS increases with higher BMI, accompanies by IR and hyperinsulinemia. MS in the Russians is associated with the lower DHEAS concentration.

To estimate the frequency and severity of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction (STSEAMI), to specify whether the changes in diuresis and serum creatinine levels are equally sensitive diagnostic criteria for AKI, and to define their prognostic value. ⋯ The STSEAMI patents receiving TLT exhibited a high rate of AKI. The major problem in the early detection of AKI is associated with difficulties in the differential diagnosis of AKI and chronic kidney disease. AKI diagnosed in view of diuresis is of greater prognostic value for in-hospital mortality than that diagnosed in terms of creatinine levels. The diagnosis of renal dysfunction in view of basal creatinine levels is prognostically important despite the fact that this cannot differentiate AKI from chronic kidney disease in the early stage.

To define the value of a new enzyme immunoassay in determining the level of anti-deamidated gliadin peptide (DGP) antibodies (Abs) in the diagnosis of celiac disease. ⋯ In the patents first diagnosed with celiac disease, the detection rate of elevated levels of anti-DGP Abs in the IgA and IgG classes is 92.5 and 96.2%, respectively, and significantly indifferent from that of IgA and IgG anti-tTG Abs. The patients keeping GFD displayed a reduction in anti-DGP Abs. The high detection rate of IgA anti-DGP Abs in the patients first diagnosed with celiac disease allows this method to be recommended for immunological diagnosis of this disease in adults.
