The authors analyse the efficacy of extracorporeal heparin precipitation of plasma proteins (selective plasmapheresis) in patients with immune complex pathology. The method lies in extracorporeal precipitation at +4 degrees C of fibronectin, cryofibrinogen and other macromolecular complexes with the aid of heparin, followed by plasma return to the patient. The method was applied to 39 patients. ⋯ Application of the method to the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis permits reducing the dose of steroid hormones, thereby not stimulating the disease activity. The method is the therapy of choice in different diseases associated with polyvalent allergy. In amyloidosis and multiple sclerosis, the method efficacy is questionable.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

The role of ketoacidotic conditions in the occurrence of diabetic angiopathies and influence of the latter on the occurrence and development of ketoacidosis in patients with diabetic vascular lesions was studied. Altogether 1152 diabetes mellitus patients were examined. ⋯ Diabetic nephropathy was shown to cause the development of ketoacidotic conditions as was demonstrated by a higher frequency of ketoacidosis in persons with diabetic nephropathies. The period of disease made a decisive effect on the gravity and progression of vascular lesion in diabetes mellitus.

Daily monitoring of the ECG, catheterization of the pulmonary artery, tetrapolar chest rheography, occlusion plethysmography and polarography were employed to study the antiarrhythmic efficacy and the effects on the central and peripheral circulation of the new antiarrhythmic etmozine and etacyzine. Twenty-two patients with a frequent chronic ventricular premature heart beat (PHB) and clinically marked circulatory failure (CF) were entered into the study. Intake of etmozine (600 to 800 mg daily) and etacyzine (100 to 300 mg daily) over 5 to 6 days exerted a positive antiarrhythmic effect in 52.6 and 83.3% of the patients, respectively. ⋯ The treatment with both etmozine and etacyzine given in courses promotes the improvement of the microcirculation and tissue oxygen metabolism in patients presenting with CF. More pronounced positive shifts in the microcirculation were achieved with etacyzine. Apparently, this bears on a more demonstrable arteriolodilatation effect of the drug.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
