The present study aimed to develop a reliable and valid assessment tool for measuring family functioning in rehabilitation. ⋯ The findings of the study showed that the newly developed Family Functioning Questionnaire in Rehabilitation met the criteria for examining the role of families of children with special needs in rehabilitation programs and had adequate psychometric properties.

The two vertebral arteries (VAs) are usually unequal in size; the left one is generally larger than the right one. It was hypothesized that the asymmetry results from the need of the dominant cerebral hemisphere for more glucose and oxygen, i.e. more blood supply. In this study, we aimed to test this hypothesis in patients by evaluating their arterial diameter and hand preference, as it is the most common criterion to determine the dominance of the hemisphere. ⋯ No significant relationship was found between the increased blood demand of the dominant cerebral hemisphere and the vertebral artery dominance.

Fracture healing is a complex physiological process that involves a well-orchestrated series of biological events. The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and sestrin 1 (SESN 1) play a central role in cell metabolism, proliferation, and survival. The aim of our study is to present serum mTOR and SESN 1 levels by comparing patients with or without bone fractures. It is also a guide for further research on the roles of these proteins in fracture healing. ⋯ We found that serum mTOR levels increased on the first day after fracture compared to the control group. However, we obtained no significant difference between groups in terms of SESN 1 levels. This study may guide further clinical studies investigating the potential role of mTOR signaling in the bone healing process.

Young-onset hypertension is a form of condition diagnosed in patients aged below 40. Cytokines such as interleukin (IL)-6 and also MCP-1 may play a role in the development of arterial hypertension. Aortic stiffness can be detected by measuring pulse wave velocity (PWV). We aimed to explore the relationship between inflammation and aortic stiffness and investigate their roles in the etiology of young-onset hypertension. ⋯ In this study, increased PWVs and the levels of inflammation markers were associated with aortic stiffness and inflammation in patients with young-onset hypertension, suggesting they have a role in the etiology of hypertension.

The most common causes of thyrotoxicosis include Graves’ disease (GD), toxic multinodular goiter (TMNG), toxic adenoma (TA), and subacute granulomatous thyroiditis (SAT). In our study, we aimed to see whether neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), platelet‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and mean platelet volume (MPV) may be helpful in the differential diagnosis of these diseases. ⋯ High PLR and NLR may be helpful to differentiate SAT from GD and TA, the other common causes of thyrotoxicosis.
