Surgical success is related with many factors belonging to both the patient and the disease. This study aims to analyse the preoperative and intraoperative characteristics, the postoperative results, and the factors affecting the surgical success in different types of chronic otitis media (COM). ⋯ Factors affecting the success of COM surgery include age, chronic otitis subgroup, location and size of perforation, the condition of the middle ear mucosa, and the level of the ossicular disease. These factors should be known and an appropriate treatment plan should be prepared.

Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is an effective, evidenced-based treatment. Despite its proven effect, it is still underused. The aim of this study was to present the number of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who underwent PR, general mortality percentages, the rate of patients prescribed PR by pulmonologists, and the distribution of institutions where PR was performed between 2008 and 2016 in Turkey. ⋯ PR was still an underutilized approach in Turkey between 2008 and 2016. The awareness of PR should be increased in our country. In order to achieve this, we think that PR should be within the scope of health policies.

Mesenteric panniculitis (MP) is an idiopathic benign disease characterized by fat necrosis, chronic inflammation, and fibrosis. The relationship between obesity and chronic low-grade inflammation has been reported. This study investigated the relationship of MP diagnosed using multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) with visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) areas. ⋯ Increased VAT and SAT were associated with MP, suggesting their role in the etiology of MP.

Non-Wilms renal tumors (NWRTs) are rarely encountered in children. The aim of this study is to determine the treatment strategies, prognosis, outcomes, and survival of children with NWRTs at Erciyes University in Kayseri, Turkey. ⋯ We have made the first report of bilateral renal involvement of ES/PNET in the English medical literature. Physicians dealing with pediatric renal masses should be alert to the high mortality rate in children with MRT, MBN, and ES/PNET and they should design substantial management plans for NWRTs.
