The aim of this study is to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Vocal Fatigue Index (VFI). ⋯ The Turkish version of the VFI is a good reliable and valid instrument for evaluating vocal fatigue symptoms in the Turkish-speaking community.

Observational Study
Prospective evaluation of vascular changes in acute respiratory infections in children with cystic fibrosis.
Acute exacerbations and chronic inflammation are risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of acute exacerbation therapy on arterial stiffness in children with CF. ⋯ The decrease of arterial stiffness (Aix) with acute exacerbation treatment in children with CF has been demonstrated. This result shows that systemic inflammation in CF may cause an increase in arterial stiffness and recurrent exacerbations may increase the risk of CVD.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Effects of oral/enteral nutrition alone versus plus pantoprazole on gastrointestinal bleeding in critically ill patients with low risk factor: A multicenter, randomized controlled trial.
Critically ill patients are at risk of developing gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding due to stress causing mucosal damage. Aim of the study was to determine the effect of oral/enteral nutrition with or without concomitant pantoprazole on upper GI bleeding in low risk critically ill patients. ⋯ Our findings seems to indicate that in patients who are at low risk for GI bleeding and under oral/enteral nutritional support, the use of PPIs may not reduce the risk of bleeding, however these results are imprecise because of low event (GI bleeding) rate and limited power.

Quorum sensing (QS) is a chemical communication process that bacteria use to regulate virulence. Inhibition of QS (antiQS) overcomes the pathogenicity of bacteria. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been used as antimicrobials against pathogens, but have not been used against QS-mediated bacterial infection. Also, studies have been carried out on the inhibitory effects of propolis based structures on pathogen growth, but no studies have been found on their potential use as QS inhibitor. The present study aims to investigate the synthesis and characterization of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) reduced with propolis extract (P–AgNPs) and evaluation of their antimicrobial and, for the first time, antiQS activity. ⋯ Our results suggest that P–AgNPs may be potentially used to inhibit bacterial physiological processes due to the signal molecules regulates important collective behavior of bacteria. The development of such nontoxic biomaterials may have great potential to evaluate for the new medicinal substance that inhibits the pathogenic biofilms.

In the literature, there is a paucity of data about the effects of fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) on myocardial function and electrophysiological properties of atrium and ventricles. In this study, we investigated cardiac functions and noninvasive predictors of arrhythmias in patients with FMS. ⋯ FMS is found to be associated with significant cardiac electrical alterations that may indicate the increased risk of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias in this group of patients.
