Although allergic diseases are generally considered to be diseases of childhood and youth, the first symptoms of allergic diseases can be seen in old age sometimes. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and characteristics of allergic diseases in the elderly population admitted to the allergy unit on an outpatient basis. ⋯ Diagnosis becomes difficult due to the perception that allergic diseases mainly affect young people. Clinical symptoms are not evident in the elderly and age-related difficulties are encountered in diagnostic tests. There is a need to develop specific guidelines for the diagnosis of allergic diseases in the elderly.

Circadian rhythm plays a significant role in the regulation of almost all kinds of physiological processes. In addition, it may also have a direct or indirect effect on the neurodegenerative processes, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and ischemic stroke. Therefore, the identification of circadian rhythm-related proteins is crucial to be able to understand the molecular mechanism of the circadian rhythm and to define new therapeutic target for the treatment of degenerative disorders. ⋯ Taken together, here we identified circadian rhythm-related proteins, and our further analysis revealed that these proteins play significant roles in molecular function, membrane trafficking, biogenesis, cellular process, metabolic process, and neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's disease.

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality in premature infants. Although there are no specific diagnostic tools, the main factors affecting prognosis are clinical and laboratory findings, and early diagnosis and treatment. In this study, we demonstrate the importance of dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) in confirming intestinal ischemia in neonates with NEC. ⋯ In patients with NEC, DECT significantly increases overall diagnostic confidence in assessing intestinal necrosis when compared with traditional diagnostic methods.

Subthreshold yellow nondamaging retinal laser therapy (NRT) could provide a greater safety profile when compared to conventional laser methods. NRT may also improve diabetic macular edema (DME). This study aims to assess whether the severity of DME affects the efficacy of subthreshold yellow NRT. ⋯ Based on the results, NRT provided an improvement in BCVA and CFT in eyes with CFT less than 300 µm at the shortterm follow-up. However, CFT and BCVA outcomes after NRT were inferior to those achieved after previous ranibizumab treatment. No positive effect of NRT was not observed in patients with moderate and severe macular edema in DME treatment.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a serious morbidity in premature neonates. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of AKI and to evaluate its impact on morbidity and mortality in very premature infants. ⋯ AKI is common in very premature neonates and associated with higher mortality, longer hospital stay, and BPD. Identification of risk factors and preventive strategies for AKI may improve the outcomes in this vulnerable population.
