High Mobility Group Box-1 Levels may be associated with disease activity of Behcet's Disease.
High mobility group box- 1 (HMGB- 1) is a nuclear protein acting as a proinflammatory molecule. The serum HMGB- 1 levels were found elevated in chronic inflammatory diseases. In this cross-sectional study, serum HMGB- 1 levels in Behcet's disease (BD) patients and healthy controls (HC) were studied. Also, its association with disease activity scores and clinical findings were evaluated. ⋯ HMGB - 1 may play a role in the development of BD. Also, due to its positive correlation with disease activity indices, it can be used as a novel disease activity parameter in BD.

WARFARIN IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE RISK OF VASCULAR CALCIFICATION IN ABDOMINAL AORTA IN HEMODIALYSIS PATIENTS: A MULTICENTER CASE-CONTROL STUDY.
Vascular calcifications (VCs), recognized risk factor for increased mortality, are highly prevalent in hemodialysis (HD) patients. We aimed to investigate the relation between VC and warfarin use with plain radiography. ⋯ In this study, we found that warfarin is associated to vascular calcifications, especially in aorta of HD patients.

This study investigated the effect of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitor bevacuzimab (BVZ) on the rabbit basilar artery using an experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) model. ⋯ VEGF inhibition with BVZ has shown to have a vasospasm and apoptosis attenuating effect on basilar artery in a SAH model.

Diagnostic Value of Procalcitonin and C reactive Protein for Infection and Sepsis in Elderly Patients.
Biomarkers are useful for diagnosing infection and sepsis in adults, but data are limited in elderly patients. Furthermore, clinical symptoms of infection in elderly patients are usually atypical or unclear. We aimed to assess the usefulness of PCT, CRP, and WBC in distinguishing elderly patients infected with sepsis from infected without sepsis and those with no-infection. We also aimed to find a cut-off value for diagnosing sepsis and infection without sepsis in elderly critically ill patients. ⋯ PCT was found to be a more valuable marker than CRP and WBC for the discrimination of elderly patients with infected without sepsis and sepsis.

Although allergic diseases are generally considered to be diseases of childhood and youth, the first symptoms of allergic diseases can be seen in old age sometimes. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and characteristics of allergic diseases in the elderly population admitted to the allergy unit on an outpatient basis. ⋯ Diagnosis becomes difficult due to the perception that allergic diseases mainly affect young people. Clinical symptoms are not evident in the elderly and age-related difficulties are encountered in diagnostic tests. There is a need to develop specific guidelines for the diagnosis of allergic diseases in the elderly.
