Observational Study
Emergency department extracorporeal membrane oxygenation may also include non-cardiac arrest patients.
The primary purpose of this study is to report the experience on the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) process for patients in the critical care unit (CCU) of an emergency department of a tertiary hospital in Turkey, from cannulation to decannulation, including follow-up procedures. ⋯ In the early phase of ECMO, vital signs improve, and the need for vasopressors and carbon dioxide levels decrease. Thus, CCUs in Emergency Departments with ECMO capabilities could potentially be designed, and emergency department ECMO algorithms could be tailored for critically ill patients in addition to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients.

Quantification of oral mucositis that progresses during concomitant chemo-radiotherapy (CCRT) is essential for its management. It is important to determine the methods that are simple, reliable and beneficial in foreseeing mucositis at earlier stages of treatment. ⋯ According to the findings of the study, oral mucositis grade is directly proportional to the progressing days of CCRT. Oral mucositis is frequently related to adverse clinical outcomes, affecting the patient’s quality of life. It is essential to develop methods that can be employed for the assessment of CCRT associated oral mucositis.

Two different scoring systems were developed to determine the severity of bronchiectasis: FACED scoring and the bronchiectasis severity index (BSI). In this study, we aim to compare these 2 scoring systems according to the 6-min walking distance test and a disease-specific health status questionnaire in patients with noncystic fibrosis bronchiectasis (NCFB). ⋯ Although both FACED and BSI scores were negatively correlated with walking distance and health status in patients with NCFB, BSI was more strongly associated.

Fatigue is very common symptom in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) and adversely affects health-related quality of life and the ability to perform daily living activities. This study aimed to determine the severity of fatigue, and its related factors, in patients with SSc. ⋯ Along with the decrease in diffusion capacity, increase dyspnea, a decrease in both peripheral and respiratory muscle strength, and worsening functional capacity may have an effect on increased fatigue in SSc patients. Increased fatigue can also affect the life quality and daily life activities of a patient. Therefore, multidisciplinary approaches are recommended to evaluate and improve these parameters in the treatment of fatigue from the early period in SSc patients.

Coronavirus 2019 disease (Covid-19) was first seen in December 2019 and afterwards it became pandemic. Several systemic involvements have been reported in Covid-19 patients. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the cerebrovascular hemodynamics in patients with Covid-19. ⋯ An increase in basal cerebral blood velocity and a decrease in vasomotor reactivity rates in patients with Covid-19 can be considered as an indicator of dysfunction of cerebral hemodynamics in the central nervous system and this can be evaluated as a result of endothelial dysfunction.
