Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most aggressive cancer types. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small noncoding regulatory RNAs that function posttranscriptionally. miRNA deregulation was observed in the development and progression of HCC. In this study, we aimed to investigate the expression levels of four miRNAs (mir-33a, mir-203b, mir361-3p, and mir-424) in HCC patients in comparison to healthy individuals. ⋯ Our results indicated that mir-33a, mir-203b, and mir-361-3p may significantly contribute to tumor pathogenesis in HCC and have potential to be used as a noninvasive biomarker for cancer therapy.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was first reported in Turkey on March 10, 2020 and the number of the patients are increasing day by day. Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) has high mortality rates in intensive care units (ICUs). We aimed to describe the demographic characteristics, comorbidities, treatment protocols, and clinical outcomes among the critically ill patients admitted to the ICU of our hospital. ⋯ Covid-19 has high mortality rates in ICU. Patients with elevated procalcitonin, hs-troponin, d-dimer, and CRP levels and lower platelet count at admission have higher mortality.

Sleep disorders and frailty increase with advancing age, along with physical disabilities, cognitive dysfunction, mood disorders, and social vulnerability. Thus, the study objective was to evaluate the relationship between frailty and sleep quality in the oldest old patients. ⋯ Sleep quality was significantly decreased in the oldest old frail patients compared to the nonfrail ones, and poor sleep quality was independently associated with frailty. Evaluating the sleep patterns of the oldest old patients with CGA in daily geriatric practice might help to improve the quality of life of frail patients.

Vestibular rehabilitation has an important role in the reduction of symptoms and in the recovery of patients in peripheral vestibular pathologies. Objective and subjective vestibular assessment tools are needed to assess vestibular rehabilitation effectiveness. The aims of the study were to develop the Turkish version of the internationally used Vestibular Rehabilitation Benefit Questionnaire (VRBQ) measure and to demonstrate the reliability and validity properties of the Turkish version in patients with peripheral vestibular hypofunction (PVH). ⋯ The results suggest that the Turkish version of the VRBQ is reliable and valid for evaluating the vestibular rehabilitation results.

The COVID-19 infection, which started in Wuhan City, China, in December 2019, turned into a pandemic in a very short time, affecting mainly the elderly and those with serious chronic illnesses. COVID-19 infections have been observed to have a high mortality rate, especially in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. ⋯ The COVID-19 infection is associated with increased mortality in chronic kidney diseases patients. Despite being nonsignificant, there was a trend towards increased mortality in patient with diabetes, D-dimer levels >1000 ugFEU/L, higher ferritin and prokalsitonin levels, an increased CRP/albumin ratio, and a lower neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio.
