Iatrogenic vas deferens injury is one of the most serious complications of operations in the inguinal region. Vasovasostomy is performed as treatment. However, stenosis is common after vasovasostomy. Oligospermia or azoospermia may develop and result in infertility. This study aimed to investigate the effect of amniotic membrane on healing in vas deferens injuries. ⋯ We observed improvement on luminal patency and histology of rat vas deferens injury after surrounding human amniotic membrane on the transected and repaired surface. Further studies are needed to apply this promising result on human beings.

The effect of testosterone replacement therapy was investigated on bladder functions, histology, apoptosis as well as Rho-kinase expression in the rat bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) and hypogonadism models. ⋯ The research draws attention to alternating treatment approaches in case of the presence of hypogonadism and BOO.

Sleep deprivation disrupts prepulse inhibition of acoustic startle reflex and can be used to mimic psychosis in ex- perimental animals. On the other hand, it is also a model for other disorders of sensory processing, including migraine. This study aims to assess the effects of sodium valproate, a drug that is used in a variety of neuropsychiatric disorders, on normal and disrupted sensorimotor gating in rats. ⋯ Low-dose sodium valproate improves sleep deprivation-disrupted sensorimotor gating, and this finding may rationalize the use of sodium valproate in psychotic states and other sensory processing disorders. Dose-dependent effects of sodium valproate on sensorimotor gating should be investigated in detail.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) causes insulin sensitivity, but the reason for this is not known yet. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of HBOT on insulin sensitivity via resistin, plasminogen activator inhibitor-I (PAI-I), and adiponectin. ⋯ The present study demonstrated that the HBOT had regulated the FI, FPG, and HDL-C associated with metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus. Moreover, the study showed that HBOT causes insulin sensitivity by raising adiponectin.

Hyperthyroidism is associated with results in increased glomerular filtration rate as well as increased renin-angio- tensin-aldosterone activation. The disturbance of Ca2+ homeostasis in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is associated with many diseases, including diabetic nephropathy and hyperthyroidism. Transient receptor potential canonical 1 (TRPC1) channel is the first cloned TRPC family protein. Although it is expressed in many places in the kidney, its function is uncertain. TRPC1 is involved in regulating Ca2+ homeostasis, and its upregulation increases ER Ca2+ level, activates the unfolded protein response, which leads to cellular damage in the kidney. This study investigated the role of TRPC1 in the kidneys of hyperthyroid rats in terms of ER stress markers that are gluco- se-regulated protein 78 (GRP78), activating transcription factor 6 (ATF6), (protein kinase R (PKR)-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase) (PERK), Inositol-requiring enzyme 1 (IRE1). ⋯ In conclusion, in our study, we showed for the first time that the relationship between ER stress and TRPC1, and their increased expression caused renal damage in hyperthyroid rats.
