Frailty is an important, multidimensional geriatric syndrome defined as increased vulnerability to stressors. Fried frailty phenotype (FFP) is one of the most widely used models to define physical frailty. The aim of this study is to investigate the crosscultural validity and reliability of Fried frailty phenotype (FFP) in older Turkish population. ⋯ FFP is a valid and reliable tool for Turkish population.

The retinol level and retinol delivery to the placenta may vary depending on various factors involving the mother and newborn. The present study evaluates the factors affecting retinol levels in newborns and the transplacental retinol passage in preterm newborns. ⋯ Placental adaptation and contributing factors may vary in populations with severe retinol deficiency. The finding of significantly increased cord blood retinol levels when compared to maternal retinol levels in the present study suggests that some compensatory mechanisms, such as increased placental RBP levels, support the presentation of retinol to the fetus, even if the mother has a retinol deficiency.

The quality of recovery-15 (QoR-15) is a patient reported outcome questionnaire that measures the quality of recovery after surgery and anesthesia. The QoR-15 has been validated in many languages; Turkish version of the QoR-15 has not yet been established. The aims of this study were to translate the QoR-15 questionnaire into Turkish and to perform a full psychometric evaluation of the Turkish version. ⋯ The QoR-15T scale is a reliable and valid instrument for evaluating postoperative quality of recovery in Turkish speaking patients. The psychometric characteristics used to assess postoperative quality of recovery were similar to those in the English version.

Irrational drug use not only causes a delay in the treatment of patients, failure to achieve full well-being, drug interactions and side effects, drug resistance but also creates economic negativities such as waste of resources and unnecessary workload. This study aims to investigate the irrational drug use behaviors of individuals over the age of 18 who applied to a university hospital. ⋯ Irrational drug use behaviors are still observed in society. The fact that the risk is higher in lower education groups is an example of the negative consequences of limited health literacy. The fact that different risk groups have been identified for different behaviors related to irrational drug use shows that intervention studies on this subject should be directed to specific groups. The effect of having social security reveals its connection with universal health coverage and rational drug use.

The aim of this study is to compare the perioperative complications and overall survival of patients who underwent proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) and patients who underwent cemented calcar-replacement hemiarthroplasty (CCRH) for unstable intertrochanteric fracture in patients aged 75 years and older. ⋯ Both PFNA and CCRH techniques can be used for surgical treatment of unstable intertrochanteric femur fractures.
