Patients who were followed up for CD and treated with pasireotide between 2014-2020 at Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty, were evaluated retrospectively. The efficacy and adverse effects of pasireotide were evaluated in this study. ⋯ Pasireotide treatment is an alternative treatment in CD, remission is obtained in the first months of treatment, and continues for an extended period. Although hyperglycemia is the most common adverse effect, it can be successfully controlled.

About half of the cases of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) occurring in childhood/adolescence occur with similar symptoms both in childhood and adulthood. Immunologic stress is claimed to be a risk factor in the etiology of childhood onset OCD. Our aim was to elucidate the relationship between childhood onset OCD risk and MHC complex I and II alleles. ⋯ The relationship found between DRB locus and OCD in this study was remarkable since there have been studies on different populations reporting similar relationship between DRB locus and rheumatoid arthritis, which is also an AID. MHC class I and class II alleles were found to increase the risk of OCD in our study, which serves as a suitable model for studies suggesting that MHC genes do not work completely independently. Even though the MHC class I and II genes are considered to have different roles in immune response, in fact they tend to work in cooperation. As in previous studies on AIDs, there is a linear relationship between MHC class II alleles and OCD risk.

Mild encephalitis/encephalopathy with a reversible splenial lesion (MERS) is a rare clinicoradiological syndrome that typically presents with central nervous system symptoms such as loss of consciousness, seizure, headache, and ophthalmoparesis. ⋯ MERS is an acute encephalopathy with good prognosis and should be considered by neurologists in differential diagnosis due to its variable clinical presentation and specific MRI findings.

The aim of this study was to investigate the healing effects of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) on experimental testicular torsion in rats. ⋯ : This study has demonstrated that BM-MSCs significantly corrected the Johnsen Score and increased anti-inflammatory cytokine levels after testicular torsion. BM-MSCs can be used in testicular torsion as supportive therapy to minimize tissue damage.

Increased bone turnover is a hallmark of hyperthyroidism. The underlying factors of how thyroid hormones affect bone cells are still under the spotlight. Previous studies indicated serum osteoprotegerin (OPG), receptor activator of NF-kB ligand (RANKL), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) as mediators of the effect of thyroid hormones on bone metabolism. Ultimately, the present research aimed to examine the association of IL-6 with OPG and RANKL in patients with hyperthyroidism. ⋯ Maintaining skeletal development and integrity is partially regulated by a normal balance of thyroid hormones. We concluded that increases in serum OPG and IL-6 levels accompanied hyperthyroidism. However, excessive levels of the hormones might cause drops in serum RANKL levels. Our results suggested that OPG, RANKL, and IL-6 might be involved in the cross-talking among immunity, thyroid function, and bone metabolism in the case of hyperthyroidism.
