Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) ranks among the most prevalent malignancies worldwide and the third leading cause of cancer-related death. The TRIM (tripartite motif-containing) protein family members had been reported to be involved in carcinogenesis and tumor progression. Here we aimed to explore the expression profile of TRIM6 in HCC and investigate its clinical significance as well as underlying mechanisms. ⋯ TRIM6 can serve as a novel prognostic factor for HCC, which functions by multiple signaling pathways.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is caused by the autoimmune-mediated destruction of insulin-producing cells (IPCs) and still has no effective cure. Better understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in the differentiation of embryonic stem cells (ESCs) into IPCs may help us improve the therapeutic strategies for treating T1DM. 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-bisphosphatases (Pfkfb1-4) are key regulators of glucose metabolism. Although Pfkfb3 has been shown to be required for the growth of early differentiated mouse ESCs (mESCs), more studies are needed to further assess the roles of Pfkfb isoenzymes in embryonic development and differentiation, particularly into specific cell types. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the changes in the expression of Pfkfb isoenzymes on the differentiation of mESCs into IPCs. ⋯ These findings suggest that Pfkfb2 and Pfkfb3 may impact the differentiation of mESCs into IPCs and the regulation of the insulin response to glucose levels. This study also lays a foundation for researchers to further probe the roles of Pfkfb isoenzymes on the differentiation of mESCs into IPCs and may open new avenues for regenerative medicine.

Curcumin may have potential as a therapy for wound healing, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. It is not known whether curcumin can promote wound healing by activating Nrf2 signaling pathway and inducing apoptosis. This study determined the role of Nrf2 signaling pathway and apoptosis in curcumin-promoting skin wound healing. ⋯ Curcumin improves skin wound healing by activating the Nrf2 signaling pathway and inducing apoptosis in mice.

This study investigated the possible degeneration in cochlear morphology induced by preeclampsia (PE) and the therapeutic/preventive effect of vitamin D (Vit D) and magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) used separately and together on feto-maternal outcomes. ⋯ The administration of Vit D and MgSO4 during pregnancy has beneficial effects on PE pathology and may play a significant role in preventing PE-related complications, including cochlear degeneration.

Levetiracetam (LEV) has been found to have an antihyperalgesic effect via acting on the adenosine system. However, the effects of LEV on the modulation of the adenosine system in the brain have not been elucidated in the prevention of seizures and epilepsy. The present study aimed to explore the possible LEV mechanisms of action in the adenosine signaling systems in an animal model of epilepsy. ⋯ Based on these results, it can be concluded that LEV modulates epileptogenesis by acting on the adenosine pathway in the central nervous system.
