Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the most common congenital viral infection. Although most children with congenital CMV (approximately 85%-90%) are asymptomatic at birth, findings such as sensorineural hearing loss, microcephaly, and neurodevelopmental retardation can be observed during the follow-up. Among the brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of CMV are white matter abnormalities, polymicrogyria, and periventricular calcification. Since a definitive diagnosis of congenital CMV cannot be made after the neonatal period, the identification of the associated phenotype is diagnostically important, but data are limited in patients who have been retrospectively diagnosed with congenital CMV infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the short- and long-term neurological follow-up results of congenital CMV infections in a tertiary hospital. ⋯ Early diagnosis and intervention are crucial in congenital CMV infection, as it commonly results in neurological involvement among the patients in our series. This preventable condition warrants further research regarding prenatal/neonatal screening.

Femoral neck fracture (FNF) seriously impact the health of the elderly and affect their long-term quality of life of the patients. This study aimed to determine whether combining the preoperative Fried Frailty Phenotype (FFP) with serum fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) and run-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2) could better predict the prognosis of elderly patients with FNF 3 months after surgery. ⋯ Assessing FFP alongside serum FGFR3 and RUNX2 levels may aid in evaluating the prognosis of elderly patients with FNF 3 months after surgery.

Congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract(CAKUT) are the leading causes of childhood chronic kidney disease (CKD). The etiology of most of the cases is thought to be multifactorial. In this study, risk factors for CAKUT and the effect of mobile phone-related electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure during pregnancy were investigated. ⋯ The etiology of CAKUT is multifactorial. Our results suggest that prolonged phone call and higher EMF exposure during pregnancy increases the risk of CAKUT in the offspring.

Differentiating multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) from adenovirus infection (AI) can be challenging due to similar clinical and laboratory findings. This study aimed to identify distinguishing characteristics and develop a scoring system to facilitate accurate diagnosis. ⋯ The proposed inpatient scoring system, when used in conjunction with polymerase chain reaction testing, may improve the early differentiation of AI and MIS-C. This approach could help reduce unnecessary testing and optimize resource allocation. Further research with larger samples should investigate this novel scoring system to establish its reliability and generalizability.

Chemical biological radiological nuclear threats are at an important point in the agenda of world health today, as they can cause mass deaths. B. mallei attracts attention as a potential biological warfare agent due to its features such as multidrug resistance, a rapid transmission mechanism via aerosol, the absence of a complete treatment protocol for the infection it causes, and the absence of an approved vaccine for protection against the bacteria. B. mallei suspect samples must be studied by experienced personnel in biosafety level III laboratories. B mallei is a difficult and troublesome pathogen to diagnose and many unknowns about B. mallei today. Therefore, the aim of the study was to determine the molecular differences and potential resistance genes of B mallei strains. ⋯ In terms of public health, it was thought that the data obtained as a result of our study about B mallei, which is defined as a biological weapon, is very valuable for creating treatment protocols to be applied to possible epidemics in the future. In addition, the available genetic epidemiological data of these strains belonging to a category that is dangerous to work with in a laboratory environment were reviewed.
