Our aim is to determine the caregiver burden of chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD) patient's caregivers, and to determine whether there is a workday loss. ⋯ In COPD increases caregiving burden. This burden is greater in symptomatic patients and when comorbidities are present. Psychosocial and legal regulations should be investigated and solutions should be produced for the caregivers of COPD patients.

Mild encephalitis/encephalopathy with a reversible splenial lesion (MERS) is a rare clinicoradiological syndrome that typically presents with central nervous system symptoms such as loss of consciousness, seizure, headache, and ophthalmoparesis. ⋯ MERS is an acute encephalopathy with good prognosis and should be considered by neurologists in differential diagnosis due to its variable clinical presentation and specific MRI findings.

Irisin, a newly identified exercise-derived myokine, has been found involved in a peripheral vasodilator effect. However, little is known regarding the potential vascular activity of irisin, and the mechanisms underlying its effects on vascular smooth muscle have not been fully elucidated. This study was aimed to investigate the effects of irisin on vascular smooth muscle contractility in rat thoracic aorta, and the hypothesis that protein kinase C (PKC) may have a role in these effects. ⋯ In conclusion, physiological findings were obtained regarding the functional relaxing effects of irisin in rat thoracic aorta. The findings demonstrated that irisin induces relaxation responses in endothelium-intact thoracic aorta rings in a concentration-dependent manner. Furthermore, this study is the first to report that irisin-induced relaxation responses are regulated probably via activating signaling pathways implicating PKC.

Background/aim: Sacral neuromodulation (SNM) is a minimally invasive treatment that modulates spinal reflexes to regulate bladder, urinary sphincter, and pelvic floor and has successfully been used in the treatment of refractory voiding dysfunctions. The aim of this study was to present our experience with SNM in a tertiary referral center with the largest number of patients and review the safety and efficacy of the procedure. Materials and methods: A total of 42 patients with refractory lower urinary tract symptoms were included into the study. ⋯ No statistically significant difference was found between success or failure rates when sex and age were variable parameters (p > 0.05). Conclusion: SNM appears to be an effective and safe treatment option in restoring voiding dysfunctions in patients with refractory idiopathic and neurogenic voiding dysfunctions. Our initial series revealed favorable results; however, further studies with larger series and longer follow-up are needed.

Vitamin D levels have been investigated in children with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF), but the relationship between vitamin D status and inflammation/oxidative stress indicators could not be clearly demonstrated. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between subclinical inflammation/oxidative stress and vitamin D status in children with FMF during an attack-free period. ⋯ PTX-3 levels were significantly higher in patients with vitamin D insufficiency (20-29 ng/mL) than in the group with vitamin D sufficient (30-100 ng/mL). Patients with vitamin D deficiency (< 20 ng/mL) had higher TOS. A strong negative correlation was observed between vitamin D levels and TOS (p = 0.003). Subclinical inflammation (PTX-3 ≥ 0.640) and high TOS levels were negatively associated with vitamin D levels.
