This study aimed to evaluate the regression pattern with the distal intramural spread (DIS) of rectum cancer after preoperative chemoradiation. ⋯ A sufficient distal resection margin for rectal cancer after preoperative chemoradiation is 1 cm in the vast majority of cases. However, DIS may exceed 1 cm in a small proportion of patients.

The objectives of this study were to assess pharyngeal airway volume (PAV) in patients with myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) by cone-beam computerized tomography (CBCT) and to evaluate the impact of diaphragm thickness and pulmonary function tests on PAV. ⋯ PAV was higher in DM1 group. There was a significant positive correlation between diaphragm thickness, pulmonary functions, and PAVs of DM1 patients. The amount of the PAV was mostly influenced by DTai and FVC. It is recommended to evaluate the PAV in patients with DM1 because of impaired respiratory functions and pharyngeal muscle involvement.

Hypertensive patients have shown autonomic dysfunction that is closely associated with the measurements of heart rate variability (HRV) and heart rate turbulence (HRT). We aimed to show the alterations of HRV and HRT measurements in patients with both dipper and non-dipper hypertension. ⋯ This study shows a statistically significant difference in HRT measurements between dipper and non-dipper hypertensive patients. Deteriorated autonomic circadian rhythm and autonomic functions may contribute to these results.

In the last years, incidence of carbapenem resistant Acinetobacter baumannii sepsis is increasing with high mortality. However, it is not clear whether this is due to inadequate antimicrobial choice or a more severe clinical course. We aimed to evaluate the inflammation and adrenal involvement in the carbapenem resistant A. baumannii by using experimental mouse model sepsis. ⋯ Adrenal involvement and inflammatory reactions are seen in E. coli sepsis and in CRAB sepsis. These findings will be focused on in future clinical trials.

Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is commonly performed to repair bone defects, and rigid occlusive titanium barriers play a vital role in bone formation in regions with no prior bone tissue. The statin, rosuvastatin (RSV), strongly affects bone apposition when applied locally. Here, we aimed to evaluate the anabolic effects of locally applied RSV with a xenograft placed on rabbit calvaria. ⋯ According to our results, RSV applied locally under a titanium barrier on an area to be repaired with bone grafts increases new bone and total bone volume.
